Job Market highly competitive for Fresh Graduates, favourable to those aged within 20 – 26 years old

Below is a synopsis of the job market in February using jobs posted online. We surveyed over 1,500 job posts across various job blogs and had the summary below:

1. Job market is highly competitive for fresh graduates – Of all job posts, fresh graduates can only apply to 25% of the jobs which had 0 – 2
years experience requirements.
2. Graduate jobs are more favourable to those aged within 20 – 26 years old. Minimum age requirement is 18 years while maximum age is 50
years. The mean age is 26 years.
3. At Minimum, most jobs required Bachelors degree, most times described as BSc/HND.
4. Sales/Marketing/Business Development jobs appeared most amongst all the job categories. Other top three categories are –
Finance/Accounting/Audit, ICT/Computer, Engineering/Technical jobs.
5. Lagos had the highest jobs in terms of location, followed by Abuja and Borno. Gombe, Abia, Katsina, Ekiti, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom,Kwara,
Bayelsa, Bauchi, Niger, Plateau,Nasarawa had the least job openings.
6. Ability to use Microsoft office suites applications (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) appeared most as the skill required by employers.
7. Masters degree (MSc) would offer added advantage to job seekers according to most employers.
