The Senate has approved that the nominees for the positions of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and members of the Monetary Policy Committee be screened for confirmation.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, raises a point of order at the plenary on Tuesday to urge the lawmakers to lift their embargo on confirmation of appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ibrahim said the non-confirmation of the deputy governors of the CBN and members of the MPC was negatively affecting the economy, especially foreign investments.

The lawmakers unanimously granted the prayer.

Like I wrote elsewhere, most members of this crop of legislators are almost always starting awkward things/fights they cannot finish, and end up losing face. It was the same scenario when they absconded from their constitutional duties by initially refusing to screen nominees for INEC Commissioner positions, giving their usual filmsy excuse that the executive must first drop their nemesis Magu.

Sometimes, the silent treatment — as the executive is giving these NASS members — is the best answer to a fool, especially these greedy and prodigal ones.

I think that, slowly and deliberately, the executive is getting under the skin of this crop of legislators, and will eventually box them into uncomfortable corners.

In the meantime, let the same legislators keep holding the nation to ransom on the 2018 budget proposal that's been on their lap since October last year - a period exceeding four months already!

The most useless National Assembly since the return of democracy in 1999!

They made Nigeria record a history that had never happened before now- the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBN could not sit in January, for lack of quorum, because they selfishly refused to screen and confirm members of the MPC (two Deputy Governors and other non-DG members)!

Never in history has this happened! And to what end? Selfish, greedy politics...

Obasanjo dealt with them like a General that he is; but a so-called General called Buhari is dealing with them like a weak Police Sergeant!

These are guys who collect (mind you not "earn"wink N13.5 million every month for working for 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) every week, of which 60% do not even attend the 3-day sittings! Their chamber is always empty with few people one could count easily. This is in addition to another N700,000 monthly and N200 million so-called constituency project per annum!

These nincompoops are the highest paid lawmakers in the entire world! And they do nothing but drink beer, do dirty politicking, and frolic with under-age girls!

God help our country...

NAKSS PROTEST AND THE TROUBLE WITH KWARA
Kwara Must Change
Few days ago, precisely on 7th March 2018, we heard that less than 15 people, who claimed to be leaders of National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) went all the way from the state of harmony, to the federal capital territory in Abuja to stage a shameless protest in solidarity with Bukola Saraki, the man who allegedly stole their future and made their parents unable to cater for their basic needs.
Apart from the ongoing trial of the Senate President at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently accused Saraki of looting over N15billion and $13million, belonging to these same youths and their parents while he serves as Kwara State governor. The United Kingdom government is also investigating some properties traced to Dr. Saraki, which is also suspected to have been acquired with funds from Kwara State.
The youths who went to Abuja didn’t protest the mindless plunder of their state resources; neither did they protest that almost N8billion was allocated for water by Bukola Saraki and his successor without any trace. They were sponsored to travel all the way to Abuja to protest against a legal process that would hold accountable, the man who made their parents so poor that they could not pay for their school fees.
When the news of their protest at the CCT broke out, it didn’t surprise many people, because long before now, the irresponsibility of some student union leaders in Kwara State has attained a legendary status. However, the public breathe in some fresh air, when NAKSS President, Comr. Musa Mohammed Mancha aswell as Public Relation Officer, Comr. Salihu Ayatullahi spoke out to disown the protesters.
NAKSS president and PRO said they are not aware of the protest; neither did they support it, adding that such protest is a gross violation of NAKSS constitution. While they both noted that those who went to protest have a right to do so in their individual names, certainly, they are not empowered to do such in the name of the association.
Surprisingly, the so called Senate President of NAKSS along with 2 others, who should be abreast with the constitution of the association shoot themselves in the feet when they issued another statement, quoting some sections of NAKSS constitution that didn’t justify their action. I felt so ashamed reading their counter statement in response to the one issued by their president. These jokers who claimed to be Senators, speaking for Kwara state students were not even ashamed to say that lack of resources for mobilization is the reason why most of their colleagues were unable to partake.
In justifying their protest, they claimed to be solidarizing with Bukola Saraki because he paid fees of some students in junior secondary schools and I begin to wonder, so if Evans the kidnapper, boko haram, militants and others also paid school fee of some students, is this how these students would jump into the street in protest against their trials?
