It would have been like a regular small town if not for the likes of Cosmas Maduka, Jim Ovia, Elumelu and other businessmen from the SouthEast that transformed it to a wonderland.

Why did they choose to come to a "regular small town"?

And they are all rich men today who abandoned poverty in the East to come make money in the city of Lagos and pay their due tax.

Or did they come to Lagos with Bullion van from Nnewi?

Dis one go just dey talk round bush. Who built Lagos, is it ur farher? Abi na Tinubu? Face reality if D English men were still in charge of Lagos today u wouldn't have noticed how over populated Lagos is. They would have built better and wider bridges. Sub stations, environmentally friendly parks and more affordable homes.

Comprehension Seems To Be Ur Problem, Thats Why U Talk Out Of Context. I Was Replying To His Statement That Ovia, Maduka And The Other Igbo Millionaires Are The Ones That Developed Lagos

Was it easy for you to recognize this current bustling part of Lagos? Anyway, this is Idumota linking Carter Bridge from Ebute-Metta to the Island during the late 50’s. This picture woas shot sometime in 1959.

The second picture depicts the scoreboard, showing results of the Federal elections of Saturday, December 12th, 1959. Today, technology plays almost all roles of this kind.

The first picture cannot be 1959.

The cars are driving on the right hand (this started around the early 70s in Nigeria)

The car designs are of the 1970s era.

A Mercedes 911 Molue is clearly seen being used for transport. In the 50s, it was the bolekaja that was being used in Lagos (lorries with a wooden rear construction).

Tinubu Square

Constructed in the 60’s and located in the heart of Lagos. The amazing stages of change.

From all these pictures, you can perceive peace and tranquility. I wish I was there then to enjoy this calmness.

And I'm saying everybody developed Lagos. From Ovia to Tinubu, from the British to the military head of states every body including the oil contributed to its development. My point is development of Lagos was done by D works of many ppl but started from D white who taught ur father and my father how read and write in D first place. If not for them our papas for still they stay for bush.

Lagos was built with Nigeria wealth, any other state can look like Lagos if the state was built with Nigeria wealth like Nigeria is building Abuja now. Most part of oil boom in 70s went into building lagos. British also channel all resources to lagos after making it Nigeria capital.

Gosh I rmmber when bar beach had those thatched beach huts, and they were so far from the coastal line. And u would rent them and bring ur mats and picnic coolers and music, hanging out wt family friends on saturdays. Good ol days.

All the thatched huts just disappeared and then d water started moving up and up till it got to the streets, then the stones were put up, and now everything has bin sandfilled for EKo atlantic. Bye bye bar beach, you gave us fun memories. cry

Better go and develop your region because from what i'm seeing in the pictures there, the Lagos of 1950 still look better than most states in your region

lagos is the mecca of igbo people, do you know how many igbos are being transported per second basis to lagos or other part of yoruba land. nobody takes your people serious again, a group of people that prefer to die in a foreign land rather than step on their soil, listen very well, we are not mates, selling of spare parts, fan youghurt, pirated cds and okrikas doesnt translate to development, we gave you an enabling environment for such petty buisness to thrive, at least we created lagos, try and create a city that is 40% close to lagos in that your land locked, erosion ravaged enclave..... and by the way, let me ask you a question have you been to lagos before? because that is the question an able igbo man must answer before he can be considered as a legitimate igbo man......bunch of economic refugees.

when i was stayiing in their region, i took time to study them well, i realize that they have an extremely weak mentality, that is why they use their overbearing attitude to cover it, they are like women, very emotional, if you know what to say they will become your slave. I do not hate them but i despise their attitude.

You're very correct, Sir. They lack a common identity, values and norms. They don't know their background and don't even realize the purpose of their existence hence, they refer to themselves as 'jews' grin. They subjectively and sentimentally attributed their struggles to that of the jews and started claiming they're from them... Just imagine. Very savagery, arrogant and ungrateful bunch of FOOLS!

Lagos had been developed while their grandfathers were still living in thatched houses.

Even till now, none of five glorified villages is this developed.

Only a fool will leave his father's hut unkempt to clean strangers' mansion.

Like your father even own a kiosk in Lagos.

Wawuuuu! see punchline...

But truth be said....according to history....the real business and prominent men and women in those days seem to be Yorubas...the likes of Ransome-kuti, Davies, Kosoko, Jones, etc....that other tribes came and started excelling doesnt take the shine off the early developers.

You all should do away with all these tribal shots tho.....it doesnt amount to anything.
