I believe you will need a license to run a creche. it's a sensitive and delicate business because it has to do with children. You may have to go through some process

I think there are some basic requirements too like cpr courses, the house must have two exit doors basement door not included, then if you stay in a basement you cant use it for daycare etc.

Please don't start any business that involves small children in western countries. Have you raised a child without
- shouting
- hissing
- pulling
- smacking

Do you know what the laws are in the country you are going to? Do you know what happens if you are perceived to break them Its like people don't think things through

Oya let me tell you a true story that happened in the US. A coworker of mine decided to start a daycare at home. Very nice and gentle lady. The husband was the one running the daycare. He had a background in early childhood education. He wanted to run the daycare and once it took off the wife would quit her job and join him. The two of them are from the middle East. Wife is a UK citizen. But both were in US working.

Husband opens daycare. One oyinbo lesbian couple brings their daughter. I heard all of this after the fact. But the summary is the husband is as I type SITTING IN JAIL for allegedly killing the baby. The child's limbs were broken and no one knows if it was the daycare that did it or the parents. But you know who got blamed (right or wrong)? The foreigner. Do you know what people in jail do to accused child abusers or child killers??

See his picture here from when he was arrested.
http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/Web-2016/Rockville-Day-Care-Operator-Charged-in-Death-of-Infant/

Someone gave him a black eye and this was even before the trial.

So there was a mistrial but they will not release him yet. My coworker had to raise $1 million for the lawyer. People were doing fundraisers. They have a 6 or 7 year old (who was also in the daycare) and now a baby the man has never met because the baby was born while he was in jail. Their lives are OVER. I heard the wife just wants him out of prison so they can relocate to a different part of the US where nobody knows them. Probably they will have to change their names.

The 1st time I heard this, I thought how stupid can one be to open a home daycare. Its just not worth the risk!!! If something goes wrong, your life is over.

Don't even try it.

Requirements for creche business in naija is actually stringent...on paper, but you know how we get away with a lot of things without being punished na. Everything goes, but in a civilized country, you cant try that shi..t.

Would appreciate suggestions on jobs for mums with babies, with daddy in Nigeria grin grin grin. Thanks

On the creche subject, yes one needs to research, take certifications, do practicums and understand the system. you can get short courses on CPR, Montessori trainings in UK, South Africa, Canada or USA to meet this requirement.

I have also heard, some nigerians do the unlicensed home daycare, goes btw 500 -800 monthly in Canada, specifically Alberta (it is higher in us- houston goes for 1k-1.5k bi-monthly).

There is this idea I proposed for families to do, especially in the initial stage but I got shot down that some Nigerians also do not want to patronize their countrymen in canny but would prefer to go to the oyinbo's daycare.

The idea is bascially child care pooling.. let's say 3 families with a minimum of 2 kids per home, come together, agree on a schedule of payment, designated care giver and house to use to start off. The average private care giver rate is about $13 per hour in Alberta, comes to $2100 monthly for 8 hourly- 20 weekdays. Why I choose 3 families is the maximum number of children that can catered to in a home day care is 6.

Hope this helps.

Start volunteering to bring maybe a foil or 2 of rice n chicken in your church, by the time you do this twice or thrice before you know it, people will start patronizing you. My sis did this n it worked like jazz

I completely agree with the part of "conducting a research before going into any business", whether in Nigeria or abroad. Business itself is a big risk, and I am sure so many foreigners have established "day care" without ending up in jail.

Those who have interest in setting up a creche should conduct their research and never be perturbed by one unfortunate issue.

Can we have more ideas. Anything on farming (agriculture).

-shoe repairer (open a shop)
-importation of food items/stuffs (yam ,dried fish) u can do many or base on one
-opening a salon
-catering
-African barbing shop

-event planning
-importation and sales of fabrics for clothe making (u can even do Ankara or tie and dye and the likes)
-beauty spa place (if u re loaded )

-if u can sow wedding dresses it would be very very good
-importation and sales of spices (African)
-jeweler (if u can make beads, chains and sell online)
-lingerie shop
These were things I researched on sha

My own intentions later is to start selling cars to naija. It's a good business too but u have to be a car guru.
U can export stuffs to naija too if u have trusted people who are not going to be your downfall.

But I think this is a brilliant idea after all, back home in naija, it is not oyibo's that take care of our babies. I prefer one run by a godly Christian sef, not oyinbo that will fill my growing children with strange things.

The only thing that I think will work will be home based jobs. There are quite a number of them. And they're mainly Customer Service jobs. There are also some Social work that can be done at home, with one day in the office. My friend currently does this, and she makes a lot of money. Her husband lives in the U.S.
What I advise is whilst doig your job search, filter it to home based roles. Most of these jobs require you have a home office set up. So you'll need a working desktop (what Nigerians call 'system'), printer, scanner, work station desk and the right swivel chair. Sometimes they send a HR person to inspect your home office to make sure it ticks their standard. You're also expected to be logged on to their server at times when you're expected to be working. So fast internet connection is a must have.
Other home based jobs include project coordinating/managing roles.

Truth is, they're not hard to find. You just have to use the right search engine and select what roles you think will work for you, also considering the salary as well.
