Cromcruach91:When you re-fit your brain you can then see that this is nothing but a failed attempt at damage control. We are not getting hoodwinked by some medical mumbojumbo being thrown to confuse the undiscerning... |

I'm glad the hospital personnel replied. Uch is not known for that, that's my hospital till date and that of my family, they might have their procedures but you will definitely be attended to especially in a case of emergency. I can gladly refer anyone to Uch cause you would meet with medical professionals. To the family and friends of the deceased, God will comfort you. Rest in peace, sweet lady. 1 Like |

maestroferddi: Besides, the conclusion that the patient would only benefit from CardiopulmonaryTransplant was also unknown to the writer and any attempt to cast aspersions on the excellent clinical practices at the University College Hospital, Ibadan by a relation who is not fully informed is rather unfortunate Read that bit from the press release, and think again. |

Well, i did not read the complainant's msg (perhaps I'll read later), but UCH isn't what i think the complainant is picturing it to be... Imagine keeping a patient for 4yrs bfr deciding to transfer to a general hospital... Most of dese smaller hospitals would have done enough damage bfr transferring... My dad was once treated at UCH.. So, believe me when i say i know what I'm saying.. The stress may be too much but it's always worth it if the patient gets dere in time 3 Likes |

So who do we believe? Oluwaseun's relative or the hospital management? The fellow that complained gave a very clear and detailed description of the events that took place before Oluwaseun's death and the hospital management put it off as mere sentiments. When will human lives matter in this country? This is sad. |
Re: UCH Ibadan, A Death Trap: Official Reply From UCH Management by maestroferddi: 11:55am On Mar 22, 2018 |
Cromcruach91:You have to wait till the writer being referred to gives his version of events... Does it make sense to you that this writer could have gone out of his way to malign/impugn the hospital if they had not displayed complete nonchalance? Are you not in this country to witness the way public officials behave? Most people reading this statement from the hospital will just be laughing... People are yet to come to terms with the power/influence of the social media...They think they can continue with their egregious practices without getting called out... |

simonlee:Oga shift joor. Most of una people na murderers. My father died from avoidable complications and then negligence of doctors. After undergoing biopsy, some days will pass without a doctor showing up or showing very late at night. His condition deteriorated and an was placed on contaminated oxygen which further worsen his condition. The oxygen tank don't have gauge so it will just finish abruptly and we'll start running up and down looking for how to get oxygen or the electric one while the poor old man is gasping for air. This is just a low down of everything, it brings tears to my eyes when I remember what he went through at the torture chamber called Teaching Hospital. And to think he was not in the general Ward but the "VIP" and still get that kind of treatment, now imagine someone in general Ward. The lack of empathy on some nurses and doctors is just unfortunate really, if you don't have empathy you have no business in being in health sector. Another day after his death, I was watching on a health channel and the same scenario happened to a man and he was treated fine and well. So what is wrong with our own doctors in Nigerian hospitals? Left to me, I'd sue the whole damn hospital if not for my over religious family that said it's God's will. I strongly disagree! 3 Likes |

maestroferddi: The writer has already given his version of events...and it was pasted on Nairaland....right here While there is negligence in our hospitals...I used to work in a govt hospital , so I knows....sometimes, some of these patient's deaths are caused by patients not coming on time, or being mismanaged elsewhere. A young friend of my mum's died due to a botched abortion done by a quack. She waited too long before going to the hospital, and even lied about the cause of her bleeding (her family members were around). It was only when a nurse chased the family members out and asked her again in private, that the girl even told the real cause....and work started, but it was too late. Also, there was the publicised case of a woman who ended up in OAUTH, for a CS and ended up with kidney failure. She blamed the hospital for negligence. What was not said was that the woman had spent 4 days prior to going to the hospital in labour at a 'church' trying to deliver'like the Hebrew women'...and by the time she showed up at OAUTH...there was so much damage that it was just a salvage op, and she lost the baby. Yet...doctors were blamed. I have seen a few patients with heart disease, most of them young, whose only hope was a cardiac transplant, including one young guy, who I will never forget, who I became friendly with, and who died in my presence, because we did not have the facility for heart transplant in this country.No...we do, but getting a donor heart is another long and pathetic process, even in developed countries. So, you see why you have to stop thinking we are lying when we say that some cases died because nothing could be done, not because 'negligence'! Like this case. 1 Like |

simonlee:Chief, sometimes I try not to enlighten again because the prejudice is already there and unjustly being re enforced. Blaming doctors and other health workers whether rightly or wrongly has come to stay, unfortunately. |

Mobsync: Just wanna answer the above-highlighted statement. This statement is a complete lie. if all Staff in Accident emergency keeps going for leave anytime someone dies on their watch, I wonder who will remain on duty. Even in the developed world, nobody goes on leave following a death on their watch. please don't confuse Police with Medical Practitioners. Thank you. 1 Like |

Cromcruach91:My friend, we are all in this country. Patient mortality will fall as high as 20% if health professionals/workers become alive to their responsibilities instead of the shoddiness you see all over the place. Nobody is saying doctors should assume the place of God or be held culpable for patients' shortcomings/failings but you know as well as I do that most of our doctors here get away with misdeeds that could have serious repercussions in saner climes. I did see the initial thread on the pathetic death of the young lady when it appeared here. I can put two and two together and deduce reasonably what happened. This particular case trended on the social media but I want to tell you that worse cases are going on in our respective hospitals even as we type. Nigeria is the way it is because people get away with their actions and inactions. We shall become a serious country when people get held accountable for their conduct. 2 Likes |

Re: UCH Ibadan, A Death Trap: Official Reply From UCH Management by maestroferddi: 12:23pm On Mar 22, 2018 |
Exmay:It was a hurriedly concocted piece of senselessness. I encourage people to educate themselves in every area of human endeavor so that people like these vainglorious elements calling themselves medical doctors will cease deceiving them. That was how I went to a clinic the other day with a medical complaint only for the doctor to be prescribing sundry tests that had no bearing with my condition/complaint. All were in attempt to ratchet up the bill... We need help here... |

maestroferddi: Not a doctor Sir. Far from it. I just intensely dislike mistruths and half truths and blatant misdirections and misrepresentations in life. Assumptions will be the death of you. You didn't answer the question though. You know for a fact that the requested investigations had no role whatsoever to play in your diagnosis, treatment or general outcome? I'm genuinely curious. |

The notable and unfortunate thing about the hospital's rejoinder is the complete lack of empathy and the implied blame of the deceased. No condolences to the family of the deceased. From my own experience, most Nigerian medical personnel are heartless and a mirror of the Nigerian society. |

Sadly due to ignorance and poverty in the land most of our people carry corpses to the hospital with the faith that doctors perform miracles. Ask an average Nigerian about annual medical checks and the response will amaze you especially when compared to their reactions to issues like this. |
