You made some valid points and he needs to show philanthropy outside his family if he's not already doing it but consider the following

Real jewels also have real value and can be resold in a few years for more than its worth now, could be called an investment, it's also a part of show biz sadly

he is young and super talented there's no way he can't make a long career from singing

also with the amount of free publicity he's giving the jeweller its very likely he didn't pay up to that amount for this piece, note he even said gifted
