The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcaster that was inaugurated in 1977. At inauguration, it had monopoly on television broadcasting in the country. The NTA runs the biggest television network in Nigeria with stations in several parts of Nigeria.

Formerly known as Nigerian Television (NTV), the network began with a takeover of regional television stations in 1976 by the then Nigerian military authorities, and is widely viewed as the authentic voice of the Nigerian government. NTA’s monopoly was broken in the 1990s.

Today, it has stormed its audience with a grand 40th anniversary celebration , asking them to comment on their memorable moments.

Was it the days of Village Headmaster, C.ock(not rooster) crow at dawn, checkmate, soap o' blues, things fall apart, tales by moonlight, behind the clouds, etc? or foreign ones like secrets of the sand, the rich also cry,Maria del l'asongeles, passion(many girls nearly die then)? It seems most of the good times came with the military we so much loathed.....I might sound like a junkie but most of the successes we made as a nation in sports, roads, etc was then....asides corruption, which democracy have excelled in sef, what else? freedom of speech sef isn't even guaranteed anymore...We have to begin to take destiny in our own hands

NTA died when the likes of Yinka Craig, Ruth Benemesia-Opia,Cyril Stober,Tokunbo Ajayi,Eugenia Abu(would have retired or will do so soonest) and co. left there....
The likes of Abbas Hassan and Seun Olagunju needs to do more than a miracle, pray quota system do not haunt nta to the grave.

Tokunbo' s death hurts though....

Happy anniversary,NTA......

This station alone is enough to know that Nigeria has not been working, is not working now and it might never work.

One of the oldest but most poorest TV station in Nigeria

We still have some old recordings of Behind the Clouds, Check Mate and Tales by moonlight. NTA used to be a fun channel back in the 90s with exciting programs. Late Nosa in behind the clouds was my favorite actor. I miss this guy.
Sadly, just like Lord Luggard said about the typical Nigerian blackman in his report, NTA died years back because of lack of managerial expertise and inability anticipate or visualize the future.
Give a high performing futune 5 company to a typical Nigerian (Incompetence and mediocrity) and he will run it to the ground in less than 15 years. The typical Nigerian has no managerial expertise.

I tell you. His demise back in 1989 was a very huge blow to Nigeria's entertainment industry.
