i think the government has tried enough, tertiary education is highly subsidized in this country, even at that 100k.

But let's face it, 40k for medical training is laughable, even 100k. Compare our university fees to other universities outside the country, even in ordinary Ghana the cheapest fees one can get is $2000. We don't pay tax yet government subsidizes everything. That is why when oil prices crash, govt can pay teachers, tell me, what is the correlation between oil price and primary school teachers.

However, we must also take the students plight into consideration. I consider it wicked to just suddenly hike the fees like that. Most of those students came into the school because it was the 40k they could afford, how will they cope now. What UI should have done is to gradually phase out the old fees and gradually phase in the new fees by making old students continue with the old fees till they graduate while freshers pay the new fees till they graduate. this way, there won't be unnecessary pressure on anyone, those that can afford it will apply to UI, while does that can't will apply elsewhere.

And they hiked accomodation fee from 14k to 30k,the halls are nothing to write home about sad.I stayed on 2nd floor, block b in Indy last session, part of the railings has been damaged for like 2 sessions and they refused to repair it not minding the security implications. I'm sure nothing would be done about the state of the halls even with the money they'll collect now.Thieves

Let's be truthful for once.
N39k is grossly inadequate for a medical student school fee.
What government should do is create scholarship for every student, repayable and at no interest so that public institutions can also grow by charging affordable, fairer but sustainable fees.

It is just that you are not normal with that statement. What was the school fees when your Family members was schooling. If you don't have something to say, why don't you keep shut. If the amount is pretty small, why do we have education in the annual budget of the country. To build classes to accommodate people like you. Don't let me vex for you o

Be Frank to yourself can twice #14k foot those miserable houses you intend to move into at Agbowo? Why should medical students be protesting of a sch fee of about #100k when a junior registrar in practise earns about #300k monthly. At practice, a medical Dr who hardly knows his profession but raising unnecessary ego will be quick to tell people that medicine and other disciplines are not the same, hence, they deserve more wage. But as medical students, they want to pay the same with other students. Ui is a national patrimony that can't be bring down

my worry is not even the fee, my worry is the parents of those student who earn little or depend on the petty job they do to pay their children's school fee. truth be told if not for fedearal university, nigeria would have recorded the higest number of school drop out owing to insuffiecint fund to cater for their school fee and welfare. and the worst is the current state of our economy where things are hard. the management of this universities should think and rethink before taking decisions. i will even propose a situation where univerisities collaborate with cbn or nigeria banks for seeking of long term lone for carrying out tangible projects which can be repaid gradually via the school fees or from government disbursement rather than forcing bills on student

Nawa oo. Medicine no be beans oo. AE-FUNAI medical students payed over 500K this year. "I want to be a Doctor" is not cheap talk.

I appreciate COMUI guys. You guys are organized. If na AE-FUNAI students, they will sheepishly pay. Don't relent. FG has looted enough money to pay provide free education for every medical student in Nigeria.

Yes.. Its true,.. That was their first step, they knew this would result into a chaos with the union still operational.. Hence the suspension last session. But this matter pass union, even the parents are not in support of it..

These sums are still very low. The students should get real.
