The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said it is collaborating with the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited for the provision of science and laboratories in six universities spread across all the geopolitical zones in the country at a whooping cost of $4Mn . They said each of the agency is committing two million dollars for the projects. Also, the NNPC said it is set to collaborate with the Nigerian academy of Engineers to raise the standard of Engineering and Technology in the country. Group managing diirector of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, who disclosed this while receiving members of the Nigerian Academy of Engineers who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja noted that the corporation had a record of supporting the development of engineering and technology in the country through its various corporate social responsibility programmes like the annual national quiz competition for science students in the country. Speaking earlier, president of the Academy, who was also a former member of NNPC Board, Engr. (Mrs) Olu Maduka, said the standard of engineering in the country was falling and the trend must be arrested, saying only an organization like the NNPC with its track record of support to the development of science and Engineering technology could spearhead its revival. Also speaking at the event, former vice chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Yola, and a member of the Academy, Professor Salihu Mustapha, said there was an urgent need to link research, academic and industry, while expressing optimizing that NNPC remains one of the corporate bodies that could provide the needed support in that regard. The Nigerian Academy Of science was established in 1997 and membership is open to professionals who are sixty years and above. Meanwhile, Dr. Baru has restated his commitment to the growth of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) market in Nigeria. Speaking while receiving members of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association in his office, Dr. Baru said he was looking forward to seeing that all domestic cooking in Nigeria were carried out using LPG. He tasked the association on public enlightenment of Nigerians on the advantages of switching to LPG in all their domestic cooking. Earlier the president of the association, Alhaji Nuhu Yakubu, commended the GMD on his vision and support, assuring that his association would help raise awareness on the advantages of using LPG over other means of cooking.

At the end of the day, you will hardly see any meaningful impact of it. Everything is done on paper in Nigeria

Good idea...
But we hope we get to see the laboratories when completed and not stories.
I see a day where those who have milked this country dry will lose All.
I see a day where men of power today will run into hiding.
I see a day where the mighty would be brought low and lose their estates.

Politicians steal 'Nigerians' money and call it their own, it's not their money afterall.

Nothing lasts forever! There is a time for everything.

No situation has ever lasted for ever.
Nigerians, don't think our current situation will, no it won't. They have today but who knows tomorrow?

I don't understand. $4m can build two standard and well equiped Universities. Why use them on just 6 laboratories. Will they be making nuclear Warheads and space crafts in those labs please?

We should stop wasting our time, money & resources in this country. Without a permanent solution to the generation of electricity on this country, there's no way our economy, industry, technology and development will grow

One of my favorite program on the Discovery Channel, Family is the "HOW IT'S MADE"

Watching different kind of machines and their mechanism in production swiftly and constantly will make one wonder if we are truly a serious minded country. Because we haven't even started producing anything tangible in this country at all.

So, the news about the $4m to be given to 6 universities is obviously go to be stories later, because it is certainly that those monies will be divided between the universities authority and the educational board.

Have they gone round to see if the ones they installed last are still working and being put to good use? You cant just be wasting money just because you want to chop some.

May God bless you. I pray that you get to a worthy and responsible position in Nigeria.

Watch the beasts jet out of Nigeria shopping for so called well equipped laboratories.

Since Independence, they have not been able to build machines and laboratories at home without subcontracting to oyibo countries so that they can get their chop.

Simple Bursen burners and Petri dish they cannot copy, replicate or steal designs like Japanese and Chinese in Nigeria.

Just watch that money go down the drain. For how long can a fool maintain a laboratory he did not build from scratch.

This is nonsense!

As a publicly owned company, you don't use public money for charitable donations or budget supplementation.

Funding for government owned universities should come from the central government or private sector donations.

MDs of government agencies arbitrarily electing how to utilise public funds outside their remit is criminal and an avenue for corruption. Not even for nonsense claim of CSR!

Bloody crooks! Who is to tell us that once the money is distributed it would not lead to a kick back?
