It was all bright flashy lights last night at the EbonyLife TV and Film Festival at the Filmhouse IMAX Cinema, Lekki, Lagos.

Mo Abudu, who has been on a mission to redefine the TV and Film space in Nigeria, stunned in a black dress as she received superstars including Mavin boss and fellow Johnnie Walker Ambassador, Don Jazzy and Mavin first lady, Tiwa Savage.

The film festival was a double celebration with Ebonylife TV celebrating its fourth year anniversary.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Joke Silva, Dakore Egbuson, Ireti Doyle and a host of A-list celebrities graced the red carpet as invited guests were treated to the new season premieres of hit TV series like On The Real and Sons of the Caliphate.

The 2015 blockbuster movie Fifty also hit TV screens with the season premiere of Fifty: The Series.

The atmosphere was electric and the scene picturesque as guests turned out in their numbers for a night of world class entertainment while enjoying some of the best of food and drinks.

Yeye people. They just killed that great series called Sons of the Caliphate, with their ineptitude and nonchalance.

EbonyLife TV just take style vex me with that drama. They got to a certain point, and just started showing several repeated episodes back to back, as if they thought their audience was made up of nothing more than puppets.

This was such a beautiful show, that could have been used to showcase the norms, customs and culture of different ethnic groups in Northern Nigeria, and it would have generated enough storylines to run for another 4 years, at least.

But no, the producers, writers and directors took leave of their senses, after a certain point. One of the lesser characters called Dikko died, and they lost any idea on how to move the show forward. This was the same series that opened up to critical acclaim, and generated a loyal clique of followers. Instead of turning it into a blockbuster series, they chose to let it die. Nansense!

You're so right! EbonyLife is annoying, they start a show, get you hooked and then they disappear. They did the same with Desperate Housewives Africa. Very stupid lot. I've stopped watching them sef

Oh, so you sef don see am? Other countries like Britain have Coronation Street, a soap opera that has lasted for nearly 60 years on British TV screens. Talk about staying power! The plot, characters and storylines keep changing. And the viewers' interest is sustained by different twists and turns, that run through the different episodes. But instead of our own people to take a leaf from them, they prefer to act like dilettantes, by starting up a good series, and ruining it through their inconclusive actions, instead of persevering or putting in all the creative talents they have got, to make sure it thrives.

Even their films in cinema halls, are subjected to the same impatient and erratic schedules. In other countries, you see films spending 9 - 12 months at the box office before it goes into DVD format. Our dear friends Ebony Life TV/Media, prefer to show their films in the cinema halls for 3 months or less, before they pack it in! Only God knows why!
