Dickson Signs N316.9bn 2018 Budget Into Law by BayelsaLegacy(op): 3:42pm On Apr 18, 2018
Yenagoa – Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has signed into law the 2018 appropriation bill of N316.9 billion which comprises N156billion for capital expenditure and N160billion for recurrent expenditure.

Speaking after assenting to the appropriation bill during a ceremony at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Tuesday, Dickson said he presented a budget estimate of N295billion for the 2018 fiscal year, but the state House of Assembly jerked it up by N21billion.

The governor also signed three other bills into law. Namely, the School of Nursing Bill, Institute of Entrepreneurship and Vocational Training Bill as well as Tourism Development and Hotel Licensing Bill.

He said he was optimistic that the budget passed by the Assembly would enable his administration consolidate on investments made in stimulating the state’s economy.

Dickson promised that his government would ensure the completion of projects in the health and educational sectors and boost investments in other critical infrastructure such as the Eco-Industrial Park and Agge Deep Sea Port.

He thanked the State Assembly for its commitment to duty and the expeditious passage of the bill which was presented before it in December 2017.

Dickson urged the Legislative arm to collaborate with the Executive arm in sourcing the much needed resources to fund the budget.

He also solicited the continued support and cooperation of the people of the state, especially in the implementation of the ongoing public service reforms, assuring them of more dividends of democracy.

He said, “The appropriation bill that I forwarded was about N295 billion, but the House of Assembly increased it to N316 billion.

“That is part of the checks and balances that they have exercised. And I know and trust that in their own case, they will also work with me to ensure that we have the resources to be able to fund this budget.

“That means cutting down as much as possible the running cost of government and we should all be more dedicated to building an efficient workforce.

“That means our public service should be up and doing, regulate itself and encourage the best out of it that can ensure the delivery of the good things that are earmarked for this year in this state.”

Earlier in his remarks, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Konbowei Benson, who presented the bills to the governor, said the Assembly properly scrutinized the proposal forwarded to it for consideration, and passed it in the best interest of the state.

accountability goes a long way. this is pure record and can be traced back to all these posts made available to the public in case of scandals. leaders should emulate this and federal government at large. stop putting people in the dark, we demand accountability.

You should be crying for the other state to release their budget not putting words where it is not called for. every thing is been stated there where the budget will be used. Accountability is what you should cry for and which is very clear there.
