Has anybody told you recently that your generation is lazy? Yes! President Muhammadu Buhari was recently quoted to have said that many Nigerian youths want everything free without doing anything.� Give me a break! Was that something new? My parents once told me that. So, what is the noise all about? Or are we just trying to make something out of nothing? Thanks be to God that he didn’t say all Nigerian youths. For crying out loud, I see no contradiction whatsoever in what the president said. It was not about political correctness rather a challenge to the Nigerian youths. If we think that the president was wrong, then, we should rise to our responsibilities to invalidate his statement. The threats from some of us to pay him back in 2019 for speaking an obvious truth does not solve the issue raised by the president. The question remains, are some of the Nigerian youths lazy? Let us keep political sentiments and affiliation aside, tell ourselves the truth and face the reality. You might not be lazy but you might have friends or relatives who are lazy. The ones who are ruled by ego, luxury, entertainment and pleasure. The Nigerian youths must protect their future. These opinions are personal.

Op you are very very wrong. I have travelled outside naija alot and i live outside naija. I can tell you that nigerians are the most hardworking people ever. An average nigerian hussles everyday to be able to pay rent, buy generator, buy fuel for the generator, feed, pay school fees and other things with no help from the government whatsoever. Is the average igbo man lazy? NO!. Is the yoruba man lazy? NO!. Op, right now i am in a country where the govt builds house and give them to the citizens free, pays monthly grants to single mothers, going to the hospital is free and the people still complain that their govt isn't doing enough.
Buhari has no right to call any nigerian lazy, and you have no right to say that too.

@ekobami, the issue here is about the President making such a hasty generalization, using the word "most". I know for a fact that even the poorest homeless almajiris in the north are not lazy, they toil under the sun doing petty labour; digging wells, hawking puffpuff, mending shoes and clothes, selling suya and indomie, the government has given them nothing in their lives, yet they hussle to make ends meet, those that aren't fit to work go around begging from dawn till dusk. Talkless of the south where everyone is hussling; going to school, learning a trade, or doing business,and you say Nigerian youths are lazy?, perhaps you should speak for yourself.

But Buhari is not the first person that is saying this. Governor Seriaki Dickson of Bayelsa said same thing in 2016 that Bayelsans are lazy and want everything to be provided free of charge for them. I know in the past Bayelsa use to enjoy good electricity but they refuse to pay electricity bills. I would have faulted Buhari if he had said all Nigerians are lazy. Let us tell ourselves the truth some Nigerians dont want to work they only want oil companies jobs but not every body will work in oil company. Now let me be frank with my people the Niger Delta people, that Buhari statement is for us. How do you explain 90% of bank staff in Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River,Edo and Delta state are Igbos. For security reasons i would have named branches you can go and verify my fact. Then Trans- Amadi industrial Area Port Harcourt and Onne that houses 95% of companies in Rivers state you find less Niger Delta persons been employed. What about Amnesty that the militants wants monthly allowance for life instead of asking for placement in companies to work. Abeg lets tell ourselves the truth only few people in Niger Delta wants to work. Obio- Akpor/Phalga boys prefer revenue/tout job than work in any company, try building a house and you will see them flood your site for unwanted revenue and foundation goat and yam. To our Ijaw brothers have we forgotten the saying that an average Ijaw man is lazy marries many wives and gives birth to so many children without any livelihood, the wives are the bread winners of the family. Go to Delta state and see women hustling in construction site mixing cement and carry blocks where are the men.

I'll remind you Nigeria is more than the average Igbo and Yoruba man, that's constituency make up less than 30% of the country.

I think if we give it some thought the Nigerian youth have abdicated their duty and for many years have become LAX to their civil duties to protest with vigour the things that matter.

There are more people voting BBN than are equipped to vote in 2019 half of those people infuriated on twitter don't even have a PVC

An old man opened his dying mouth to tell you are lazy and here you are trying to rationalise the thought of a senile old man. On what indices can one say that Nigerian youths are lazy? If you go to the street,you will see Nigerian youths making great strides even though the economic situation is not favourable to them.

If anyone is to be called lazy i think, president buhari qualifies as number one. The question he was asked bothers on his economic and infrastructural development in the north east but he being very lazy could not articulate his thought enough to give a resounding answer to the question he was asked. He kept moving from one incoherent thought to another until he ended up talking about Nigerian youths. Other presidents will take such opportunity to sell their country to the world but our own with his retrogressive thought pattern ended up de marketing us.
