I created this post to show how quickly you can transform things in the country and how companies can upgrade or improve on their services. I will be going back to the era that has really change our way of life and also the way internet has improve in Nigeria. I bet that majority of people using Smartphone now can’t relate to this awesome era. Ladies and gentle men, check out how we help shape and improve our telecom industry in Nigeria and the company that suffer it most.



1. Freedom VPN era.
In this era you have to be familiar with local host and port 8080, so as to enable your browser to use it. Even though the free servers are slow (US, GERMANY, UK), we still manage to use it peacefully and moderately, unless you have long throat which is when you start paying for basic plan and the rest just to get more data. Freedom free plan has 100mb limit per day and you have to open multiple account just to have more time. The telecom company that suffers it most is MTN Nigeria, because most proxies, tweak and port always work on them. Etisalat (now 9mobile) also follow suit but it was not as popular as MTN, while Zain (now Airtel Nigeria) has low tweak at that time.
It even got to a point that people starts holding radio programs on how to use Freedom VPN to browse free with any network. Trust Nigerians, they never miss free opportunity to the extent that our “printing brothers” starts selling tutorials handbook on free browsing which 90% of the settings are for MTN Nigeria.

Nigerians are people who love to push things to its limit when it comes to free things. Opera mini also get it share of active users with the provision of custom mod. This era was the time many Nigerians youth engages in internet for research, free browsing cheat and how to bypass network firewall. In this era, many Nigerian youth discovered their skills. Simple server became popular with its unique configuration settings and its very complicated for a new user but later understand how it works which also make you smart in tweaking out free browsing settings. Simple server work with any application on pc and on mobile, it’s very fast on MTN Nigeria or 9mobile.

5. Anonymous Proxy era.
This free browsing settings works perfect with the default browser of your phone (Java or Symbian), it also work very well on pc if you can get a good host. Configure your proxy ip with any anonymous proxy ip, type in any of your service provider homepage URL and you are automatically redirected to the proxy page where you will type in the website you wish to visit.
One disadvantage of this free browsing trick is that it disables your java script of the website you are visiting, making it hard to get the full features of the website you are visiting. In this era we are don’t bother about the limitation we face as long as we can download large file and also browse for free.

6. IMEI era
As technology advancement increase in Nigeria and many people starts using smart phones for various needs. In this era most people that enjoy unlimited data are blackberry users and before you can enjoy this plan you need to change your phone IMEI to that of blackberry to enable you enjoy this unlimited data.
This era push out GLO Nigeria to the limelight because this IMEI tweak only work with their network, just change your APN to blackberry.net and change your IMEI to any blackberry product and you are ready to go. Later 9mobile was also affected with this tweak when you purchase a new Smartphone. Nigerians got no chill when it comes to free stuff, you got to continue to tweak to keep getting free data to your sim until the network provider decided to block it.

That was the sweetest free browsing era of all, ahswr. Nigerians almost finished Glo; guys bn dey use up to 10GB per day, even more sef.

That was around 2006/2007 I was using Sony Ericson K700i back then. What a memory.

Anyone who didn't use musicplus with psiphon is on a long thing. I also used magic sim on mtn.
I remember using simple server in 2014/2015.

I still believe the network providers allowed the free browsing to create internet awareness and consciousness amongst Nigerians most especially the youth and then they blocked it and introduced Data plans as extra means to boost their income- mtn is a case example

Op browsing on Sagem my v5 and Samsung small phones was free then on mtn(I flex it then)
Then opera mod 4.2(Infact u need an exact type 4 cheat to work) , opera handler 5beta 2 (Glo was still stingy)
Simple server came on board all networks (Glo opened up but couldn't download just browsing, still stingy).
Mtn magic sim(BB bis on Android) Etisalat magic sim, I flexed it(didn't buy data for years, 200mb for 1k say wetin happen.

IMEI TWEAKING
Now network providers no gree o, during their system upgrade if u have an idea, in d night start trying all their codes for buying data, if any work, it will serve 4 just 3days b4 d block it.
