Culture is everything. There is nothing wrong with what he is wearing. It's a ceremony, not an academic presentation.

Actually, in South Africa, the law doesn't discriminate against religion either. Both Muslim teachers & students are allowed to practise their religious beliefs in a "secular society". Example, on Fridays, Muslim students leave school early whether they're going to the mosque or not etc. It's understood. A hijab, however, isn't allowed in school premises for obvious reasons. They can, however, wear a headscarf to honour their religion, they just cannot cover the entire face. And the scarf they choose to wear has to match the school uniform. Finish. It's all about doing your own thing, while taking into consideration the rules/law & others. We don't live in a bubble, so we have to respect each other's differences: that's what the South African constitution upholds above individualistic sensibilities.

Nigerian law does not discriminate against religion in any way. The true state of affairs here is that some groups - northern muslims for one, want more than their fair share of rights ( does that sound vaguely familiar ?)
