S5 is worth buying. The battery is good compared to s4 and s6.

Don't buy an S5 i am currently using one poor battery life and too much bloatware. So many apps you don't need are on the phone and you cant delete them. Better go for an S6. It's way better.

Whizpeter:

If I have 40k to buy a phone, I'll buy a S5 for 35k and use the remaining 5k to buy power bank rather than buy an Infinix hot 5 or a Tecno K9.

But if you're in places where there are no professional engineers that can repair your Samsung or Apple if it develops a fault, just buy Tecno or Infinix so that maintenance won't be an issue for you.

Lemme use myself as example, I used to use a Samsung s4 and a blackberry q10. The S4 developed a screen issue and I saved up money to buy a used s6 or note 4 but work took me to one village laidat in Benue [I'm gonna be here for a long time], so I carried my money and travelled with it hoping to buy the phone when I get to Benue, my brother you won't believe that Samsung is a luxury around here, ordinary samsung screen protector scarce for here except you go to Makurdi which is 3-4k away from here.

What did I do? I Jejely bought a brand new k7 to manage while I'm here and once I'm back to my base I'll return to my Samsung.
I can't be using a phone that I'd be travelling long distance to go and repair or buy accessories for.

My point? If you stay at a place where you've got good engineers, don't ever take a Tecno or Infinix device over a Samsung, LG or others. But if availability of good engineers is a problem, then go for the cheaper and substandard Tecno, Infinix and itel.
Tecno and its brothers can tolerate abuse but Samsung is just like BMW, e no dey tolerate abuse or inferior repairs and parts.

I don't think when people are planning to spend 40K on a phone, the majority are buying used phones.

Samsung makes phone of 40K every year so it's the people that are buying those that I can advise to buy TECNO/Infinix.

People who buy used 4 year old phones know exactly what they want(Flagship phone on it's last lap).

Maybe they've been holding on to that sentiment of buying that year's latest flagship phone since it came out and they couldn't afford it or trying to keep up with the jones' not knowing that even the jones' are not that tech savvy and the rest of the world has moved on since.

To make matters worse, you're buying a phone that can only compete with low end phones of 2018. Besides, there's hardware age and how unpredictable the parts are. It's a hopeless situation for anyone buying it in 2018.

How else would you know it's a Samsung phone if the bloatwares ain't included? cheesy

Bro, please if battery life is your yardstick for comparison then it's my pleasure to announce to you that S6 has the worst battery life you can find in any Samsung recent smartphone.

S6 too carry bloatwares, S6 bloatwares come carry swag join body sef. If battery life is an issue to you, go for the note series.

I use an S5 as a second phone so i am talking from experience. The only way to really enjoy the phone is witha correct power bank whichi don't have..

S6 has worse battery trust me. Though I won't buy an s5 over s6. S5 has removable battery but chances of u being able to buy the original battery is very low, so even if u have 2 batteries it won't solve the battery issue because what u will probably get is a fake battery that will make matters worse.

Bro I buy used phones and what do I want? Highest possible value for my money.

So if your choice was limited to a Samsung and you had just 40k, you'd opt for a Samsung brand new low range smartphone as against a top performing smartphone like the s5? Bro think am well na, how does it sound to you?

When compared to the Tecnos and Infinix, the only thing normally outdated about these used phones is just the android software. Tecno still use outdated hardware on their recent devices and the hardwares are not even the best in their league.

Just check out the chipset that Tecno used in the k7, k9, CM, cx etc, majority of them are older or just as old as the chipset found in the Samsung s5 not to mention the s6.
Same applies to other hardware such as screen, camera lens etc.

Ah brother, no matter what, a used Samsung flagship will give you better value for money that a brand new Tecno or Infinix of the same price range.

Actually I was carried away by the design and camera. U know that phone was the turning point for Samsung, that was the first phone Samsung made with real premium feel. I sold it after 8 months, bought infinix hot s and still collected change. I used the hot s for like 10 months and replaced it with s7 edge, that one has a better battery.

Omo the one time i had mad buyer's remorse was when i bought blackberry Z10 and i sold it after a month. Battery was wack and reverse charging at some point. I don't like to stare at my own mistakes for months. Good thing it was still very expensive when i sold it. Sold it for 60K

Still missed BB10 OS til date. I used the Z3 and I loved it. Battery was superb! That was before the Era of 5000mAh Phones and phones with 12 hours SOT.

I loved the Q10, maybe cos it reminded me of my bold 5 which was the first blackberry phone I used. I loved the bold 5 and still do, whenever I see someone using the bold 5 it brings up nostalgic feelings. That phone opened the doors of blackberry for me to enter and explore, I used all categories of phones blackberry had to offer but had to stop the romance when I noticed that they weren't taking their OS10 as serious as they took 6 and 7.

When I said majority, I'm not talking about Nairaland, I'm talking about the reason Samsung makes low end phones, obviously it's coz there's a market for it. I won't buy and you may not buy if your budget was 40K but majority of people just walk into slot and ask for Samsung. No time for researching what cool flagship came out some dinosaur years ago.

If I only had Samsung as a choice, I'd go with a used midrange phone maybe C series but How can I be limited to Samsung in real life tho?

Also, there's buying used phones and then there's buying used flagships from 4 years ago. I'm okay with buying used S7 and above but anything before that is OYO. It's not about underpowered chipset, there are underpowered 14nm chipsets that serve its purpose.

I have kuku had 40K budget and i didn't buy used phone. I guess after blackberry Era, I didn't see the point of used and very old phones. Last affordable phone I bought was Infinix Hot Note pro. Used was not even on my mind. All depends on what you want in a phone. 2018 phones are offering so much more for less.

Nah every individual is biased when it comes to phones. S5 is not bad ass to me or Antutu/Geekbench.

Price of 35K for a phone whose parts have suffered from 2+ years of wear/tear but somehow still badass when compared to phones in it's price range(for a brand new one complete with the latest Android version out of the box). A beg, i don't need to be taking risks like that with my daily driver tbh.

Lmao, fear fear somebody.
Let's just say I love taking the risks. And I've never told a sad tale since I started buying used phones cos I do my due diligence before proceeding to buy a phone.

Since 2012 till now, I've bought just three brand new phones out of a possible 20 phones I've used within this period. This present K7 is the 3rd one.

Also I might have forgotten to mention that I'm not the ideal smartphone user. I'm a reviewer so many phones come and go. None are used. I still buy phones but once in 2 years and obviously can't buy used phone and expect it to last 2 years in same great shape

okay. Speaking from experience.
I have an s5 right now I'm using as my daily driver
I'm running android 8.1
Camera is still very good, better and perfect, no much difference from the s6 except nights shots without flash.
Front camera is 2.1mp,but I have compared this camera to the latest phones like tecno camon cm, x and Pro, and the s6. Difference from the s6 is able to zoom in much more without loosing details. And it's still a clear winner. Here

I have 16gb inbuilt, with 32gb memory card making it 48gb total.

I have played games like nba 2k17 was able to play at high setting maintaining good fps.

Over all it the beat phone u can buy at a cheaper rate now in naija, alternative to most cheap tecno phones like spark, camon, hot series etc.
I have a thread where I discussed about the android 8.1
Also you have Google camera port for s5, much better support on xda
Battery life at pix

your 8.1 is a custom Rom right? can you help me with a link to port gcam on Samsung J7 2015(os 6.0 )

I've achieved these with over 5 of my used phones before selling or giving them out for an upgrade.
My s4 has reached the 2yrs mark too but the screen issue occurred cos it fell from where I live upstairs to the concrete floor downstairs. Apart from that, I've not loosed a screw on the phone since I bought it.

My Tecno J7 didn't clock a year [approximately seven months] before its charging port issues started, and my bold 5 didn't clock a month before it started developing consistent software issues, I was always reloading the OS.
The J7 was new, the bold 5 was used.
When I buy smartphones whether used or new, I buy for short term use, after a year ayam already tired of the phone and looking for how to dispose it.
I don't think I've ever carried out serious repairs on a phone before because I dispose them before their werey start. That's why I'm not particular on getting new phones, what's the essence when I know I won't use the phone for a long time?

I used J7 briefly. To me the S4 without issues that my friend uses, when I pick it up;
1. it's so tiny and hard to type on, first issue.
2. battery is always low af.
3. He said it can't open uber app. Wakanda limited shidisdat?
4. Design looks like 2017 low-end from Samsung
5. The color reproduction on that AMOLED looks painful to look at at night.
6.it hangs like mad on simple apps.

Didn't even tell you about the S6 I played with trying to send stuff to on Xender. Started handing I said okay I'd clear catch. That one too was hanging. I said okay I'd hit home and refresh.
