HOW TO START A POS CASH WITHDRAWAL AND FUND TRANSFER BUSINESS IN NIGERIA
More and more banks are realizing this and are moving away from opening new bank branches. They are opting for agent banking to reach their under banked and unbanked customers. Agent banking is a rising trend as illustrated by recent data from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Since banks have invested a lot in building their infrastructure and operations, changing their business model to incorporate agent banking is quite complex. They have to set up an agent banking network that allows their agents to provide financial services on their behalf outside their traditional bank branches.
If you are planning to start an agency banking business and have no idea where to start. Learning the basic will give you clarity as to where to source technology, where to start, how to manage, and other risk factors involved in starting and running an agency banking business in Nigeria.

There are 4 key steps to set up a robust and effective agent banking network

1 Plan the geographical spread of your banking agents carefully
To reach existing and new customers, each banking agent should be close enough without competing with other banking agents. too many other agents competing for business will prevent agents from generating more business.
2 Choose the right kind of partner for agent banking
Partners should have established distribution networks that can reach your (potential) customers. these agents can also be village and town shop owners, mobile money agents, pharmacies, consumer goods distributors and petrol station operators to name a few.
3 Select and deploy the right kind of technology and platform
When deploying agent banking, a bank needs to invest in a technological platform (such as Amdocs Support financial-grade platform for real-time agent banking) in order to extend their services and mitigating fraud. Furthermore, the banking agents must also be supported with the necessary equipment and internet connectivity to function independently. For example, the paycentre in Nigeria provides its banking agents with a management information system (MIS) to ensure online, real-time transactions.

4 Manage, maintain and expand your agent banking network
Once the agent banking network is in place, all agents must be trained in areas of customer care and relationship management, information technology, loans application and repayment, marketing, finance and accounting.
In order for your banking agent network to be profitable, it is important to know how many of the registered agents are active and profitable. An agent can be inactive for various reasons, such as: too much competition, not being a good fit, or being unable to reach the right customers to market and promote banking services. The performance of banking agents must be monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure ROI.
As part of the success of agent banking, customers must also be educated to let them know which bank services they will be offered at which location, and how it works.
Once the agent banking is running successfully, expansion is the next step. This can be done by enlisting more partners for agent banking in other regions, or to offer the banking agent network to other banks. Opening up the banking agent network to customers of other banks can be especially profitable in rural areas where other banks have a limited number of branches.
By setting up and operating their agent banking network, banks will be able to extend their traditional footprint of customers and grow usage amongst existing customers as well as onboard new ones. Apart from increasing market share and revenues, it also boosts customer loyalty and increases brand affinity – two essential tools in this highly competitive market

in 2015 Going by the CBN projection that come 2020, the number of bank branches would increase from 5,797 to 10,000, the big question on everybody’s lips is whether the number will be enough, considering the fact that the nation’s population, which is presently put at over 170million would be expected to be over 200million.

Investment
Daily operating capital for agents is being estimated at a minimum of about N100, 000 to N200, 000. “The agent might not make a lot of improvements at their shop, but they will need to put money aside to invest in the agent banking business. It is N100, 000 to N200, 000 for them to have a solid business operation because as soon as you become an agent, customers will learn about it and the bank will support marketing activities towards the agents. When customers come to you, they expect to find money.

The high cost of installing brick-and-mortar banks
The high cost of deploying conventional banking to the bottom of the pyramid has kept banks from being able to penetrate rural communities.
With agent networks, the cost of providing Financial Services dramatically decreases. The mobile phone+Mpos brings Mobile Financial Services directly to the fingertips of the end-user and the agent network creates unprecedented proximity between rural communities and the formal banking sector.
Our FBS PAYCENTRE model
Enabled branchless banking services typically include: cash-in (accepting customer cash deposits to load accounts), cash-out (customer withdraws cash from his or her account), bill payment, airtime top-up, account management, and cash remittances. Anyone with a cell phone can conveniently and securely access agent services.

MPOS is a mobile Point-of-Sales (Mobile POS) that operates on bluetooth enabled smartphone devices. mPOS App can be downloaded on the mobile device and the App is launched each time a merchant needs to consummate a transaction on the terminal. The PinPad (Chip reader) is connected to a mobile device via Bluetooth to process a transaction. Transaction amount, type of transaction and account type are captured on the mobile device while the Pinpad only allows cardholder to insert his card and enter PIN. Status of consummated transaction is either via Bluetooth enabled printer or an e-receipt is sent to specified email(s).

Key features

It uses the data on a mobile device thereby offering a better network reliability in view of capability to swing across EDGE, 2G and 3G
It is more portable than regular POS terminals which makes it easier to move about with
It gives merchant the option to print e-receipt for transactions consummated on the terminal
It has capability to record cash or card transaction on the devices
It has in App transaction history ( view transaction history, daily, monthly, year or All)
It connects to a mobile device via Bluetooth
It also uses a Bluetooth enabled portable printer (though optional because it has capacity to issue e-receipt)

BENEFITS OF PAYCENTRE MPOS SOLUTION

HOW TO START A POS CASH WITHDRAWAL AND FUND TRANSFER BUSINESS IN NIGERIA
More and more banks are realizing this and are moving away from opening new bank branches. They are opting for agent banking to reach their under banked and unbanked customers. Agent banking is a rising trend as illustrated by recent data from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The particular transaction can only be traced back to your shop/location and not the customer; except only if you have a CCTV camera installed in your location.

To avoid this scenario, always ensure to request for means of identification, matching the name on the ATM card/account from the customer.
