My Experience With Actv by skyfall: 9:45am On Jul 06, 2015
I had been planning to put this together for weeks but I've been quite busy.

Like a lot of Nigerians, I got tired of Dstv's arrogance & monopoly and decided to take things into my own hands.

I looked around for other satellite TV providers and decided to try Actv (pronounced Active). Unfortunately, I didn't see much about them online in terms of customer experiences, but decided to take the plunge anyway. So I called them and they linked me up with one of their distributors in Lagos who installed the dish and decoder for me. The equipment (plus 3 months premium subscription) came at a promo price of N9900.

All i can say is so far, so good. Some highlights though

-Their decoder is very portable, smaller in area than a DVD case. It also boots up in less than 30secs!
-The decoder has a HDMI port, actually has HD capability, and can also record via USB (update: it recorded, but my PC/TV can't play the recorded format).
-Picture quality depends on the channels on offer. Some are as clear as Dstv's HD channels while others are just like standard Dstv channels
-They don't have Premiership but they promised to acquire it in future (luckily for me, I don't watch much of football). They also show some other leagues via Fox Sports.
-They don't have CNN but have BBC, Aljazeera, France 24, Sky News, Channels TV which are ok for me
-They also have several science & documentary channels
-They have local betting prediction channels
-They have Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Pidgin, Mexican, Indian movies & soap channels.
-Other highlights are NatGeo Gold, BET, B4U Music & Movies, Zee World, MTV Base, Man-U TV, Fox Movies etc
-The bouquets are affordable N2000 - N5000
-The company is Nigerian-owned and I'm very passionate about local businesses.
-They've added about 7 MBC (Middle East Broadcasting Center) channels. They show nice movies, both old and new.

These are areas I think they could improve upon
-The remote control quality is rather poor and I believe they can do better
-A few of the channels are not in widescreen format, making the pictures look funny. This is probably beyond their control.
-They have several Christian channels but i didn't see any Muslim ones. Not that i care much about this, but if you're trying to compete in a market, you have to be able to cater for as many customers as possible. Update: There is Peace TV, an Islamic channel.

I'll try and add more comments as I use it.

You can ask me questions about the product and can also get more info about the company at http://www.actv.tv/

NB: Please note that I am not an agent of any company. This is just a free public service.

@skyfall, which channels on the premium bouquet are hd channels?

Have you still been enjoying the service?

Yes, i'm still enjoying the service. However, many of the channels went off-air last month. This is as a result of the disappearance of an Israeli satellite which they use. According to them, they're working to resolve this.

For HD channels, they don't select, unlike Dstv. Their decoder is HD by default. It now depends on what kind of signal that station is broadcasting. Stations like Fox Sports, MBC (movies) are in HD. I'd say about half of their channels are HD. I'll check again and update this post.

Lol just came across this thread again.

Actv has collapsed and I've junked their dish. I still keep their decoder and remote as mementos though.

Back to Dstv (Access). You're welcome

Funny.
DSTV family bouquet is only 1800 Naira monthly and since January have been broadcasting English premier league, Spanish league and Champion league.
There is one movie channel.
BBC and CNN and Aljazeera.
Bollywood and Nollywood movies.
You are safer with DSTV right now than taking risks on all these dishonest Kwese,Actv or TsTV in my opinion.
