About 10 senators fought in a closed session presided over by Senate President Bukola Saraki over issues bordering on what they tagged as ‘clampdown’ by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’.

It also emerged at the session that the EFCC has commenced scrutiny of bank details of many senators following allegation of financial misconduct.

Daily Trust gathered that the issue dominated the closed session of the Senate that lasted for about three hours yesterday. The session which started by 10.56am ended around 1.36pm.

Senators told our correspondent that at the session about 10 senators confirmed that the anti graft agencies had accessed their bank statement for scrutiny.

A senator said, “The issue started when a senator from a Northwest state stood up and accused one of our colleagues from Northeast of being the one that submitted his name for probe. The issue charged the session. It was at this moment that others spoke on it.”

He said other senators including two from the southeast confirmed that their bank details was being analysed by the EFCC.

Also speaking on the closed session, a northwest senator said their northeast colleague was accused of being the agent of the EFCC at the Senate.

“About 10 of our colleagues raised the issue that their bankers have intimated them that their bank statements are being scrutinized,” he said.

It was gathered that the issue led to argument between the accused northeast senator and other lawmakers.

Daily Trust gathered that the issue of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP, Delta) was also raised. Nwaoboshi has been in the EFCC custody since last week.

“Nwaoboshi was arrested since last Tuesday. The EFCC secured the order to detain him in a crafty way. They went to the court with Peter Nwaoboshi without including senator on the court order,” he said.

Three senators also confirmed that Nwaoboshi told them that the EFCC has secured detention order to arrest two former governors from Northwest, who are serving senators.

Efcc has lost all credibility to be praised even when they deserve it, since Buhari has successed in using them to fight political opponents until those ''opponents'' now defect to APC. Will it not be justified to say those Senators are the ones not on the side of Buhari?

I'll have more faith in the EFCC when they manage to secure a conviction of just ONE corrupt politician.

I wonder where Nuhu Ribadu is.

Everything is in a state of daba-daba guka-guka. I can't even find the words. Our leaders only have selfish interests of theirs to attend to. Smh!!

The sooner we wake up and realize that these politicians and their minions on Nairaland are only in it for themselves the better.

I've never seen a point in time when criminals in the NASS were so shaky and squirmy like this. This makes me happy. There should be no rest for criminals. I hope the EFCC can secure at least ONE conviction though so the rest will know they mean business

I have long loathed these legislathieves, and I wish I could be happy about this. This is more like stifling them ahead of 2019. Whatever happens, I hope the whole system collapse.

This getting to the end of April and the budget is not even what they are discussing but why an agency should be checking their finances. They have not even been called for questioning yet o, just that they heard a rumour that their accounts is being monitored.

If the executive have any project to executive, they should just disburse money for it abeg, any year they approve 2018 budget ministry of finance will reconcile the accounts.

Seems you guys missed the part in paragraph 5 as reproduced below.

A senator said, “The issue started when a senator from a Northwest state stood up and accused one of our colleagues from Northeast of being the one that submitted his name for probe. The issue charged the session. It was at this moment that others spoke on it.”

Oga pls argue with your brain! When did Senator Peter Nwabaoshi from delta become a Buhari enemy? Or Stella Oduah? Or Joshua Dariye that looted Plateau state? The way you people present issues just disgusts me! Even Dino Melaye that claims that he's "speaking for the masses", What has he said for the masses that warrants him being a Buhari enemy? These people have committed serious acts of graft and other crimes, when its time for justice to take its course, they all scream witch hunt or Buhari's enemies when the Buhari himself doesn't even know some of them.

It doesn't really matter who is heading the EFCC, but who is the EFCC head reporting to.

The main issue here is why is it that only some selected senators are been attacked?.... imagine Dino been arrested because some thugs said he supplied them guns, like the police don't arrest on a daily bases criminals who supply guns and later release them without charge.

Another idiot talking without brain!
Buhari submitted the 2018 Appropriation bill to the NA since last November, those thieves are yet to sit down to pass it because they want to collect kickbacks from the heads of parastatals. There was a deadline for procuring those Aircrafts from the US and Buhari went ahead and paid in expectation that those thieves would sign the appropriation bill he sent to them since November last year! The same idiots are screaming impeachment now, when the Appropriation bill is still yet to be passed in April!!!!!!
And this fool I'm quoting here is supporting the thieves that are holding down his destiny!
I pity your life! angry
