Buhari joined the Nigerian Army by enrolling at age 19 Nigerian Military Training College in 1961, and at age 21, he was commissioned a second lieutenant.

Those old soldiers/baba u saw in that pics above might av joined the Nigeria Army before Buhari as a recruits soldiers (non-commissioned officers).

But mind you a commissioned officers is always a senior to non-commissioned officers irrespective of age.
