So,I checked. In all of Nairaland there is no single thread for Tennis. Is it that no one follows the sport in this country or we just haven't thought of opening one yet.

Lawn Tennis. Though it's not called by that name anymore

Tennis is played on a rectangular court by either two players (singles) or four (doubles). Players stand on opposite sides of a net and use a stringed racket(bat) to hit a ball back and forth to each other.
Each player has a maximum of one bounce after it has been hit by their opponent to return the ball over the net and within the boundaries of the court. Once a player fails to do any of these three things, their opponent wins a point.

The aim is to win enough points to win a game, enough games to win a set and enough sets to win a match.
The first person to win six games wins a set, but only if they are leading by two clear games.
That means that if your opponent wins five games, you must win the set 7-5, or play a tie-break if the game score reaches six all(6-6).

Matches are usually the best of three (women) or the best of five sets (men), although some men's tournaments just play the best of three sets(ATP masters series like the Barcelona open,Monte Carlo Open etc).

Tennis is played by both male and female. Each having its own association.
The ATP ( Association of Tennis Professionals). This is the body responsible for male tennis. Then you have the WTA (Women's Tennis Association) for women.

Players in Tennis are ranked according to the number of points amassed by winning either a grand slam title or ATP masters 1000,500,250 series as the case may be.

There are four major tennis titles known as Grand Slams:
Australian Open
French Open (Roland Garros)
Wimbledon
US Open.

9. JOHN ISNER- 3,125 points
10. DAVID GOFFIN- 2,930 points

what is it called now. tennis and boxing are big men sports now and get too much media coverage. wanna learn how it's played so I can follow the sports.
