Nice one! But i think it's best we keep the champagne on ice until we see appreciable progress on the project. We've seen many false dawns with so many big-ticket projects in the South East that some measure of circumspection is called for at this point.

Anyone with updates on the airport being constructed? A year has now gone in the three years duration given, so we should start seeing something on ground by now!

Hey we need to get something clear. The 30 % share of the FGN for The Niger bridge project was already funded by the Jonathan's administration.
Buhari came in 3 years ago and stopped it. But now he wants igbos to support his reelection, he restarted some works.

The fact that some people are already thankful to him shows how easy it is to mess with people's reasonings.

The Niger bridge is a political tool just like Igbo presidency.
It is a hydra headed dicey situation.

Since transparency is a luxury over here, one can't really place his hands on verisimilitude of situations.

The government gave reasons that the renegotiation of the contract and compensations stalled the project, while initial works were on snail speed. They hinted expunging the tolling clause from initial papers were the meat of the matter., and if that be, then it is fair enough,

There were other times when, the NASS ORCHESTRATED THE DEPROPRIATITION AND DEDUCTION OF FUNDS FROM THE INFRASTRUCTURAL BUDGET PREPARED BY FMPWH, as was claimed by fash, also there were counter claims from Nass etc

If that be not the true state of the situation abinitio, then it definitely gonna be politics.

Such abysmal oddities are the bottlenecks that keeps us in the doldrums of retrogression and quicksand of underdevelopment, Why should critical infrastructure, national security etc be tied to apron strings of politicization? Very unbecoming nwanne,

What most Nigerians seem not to comprehend is that, It ain't igbo project,

It is a nigerian project, it will be a socio-economic boost and developmental game changer in South East, South South, middle belt, South West, far north, West African region, central African region

Continuity is key, irrespective of party, c in c, and what have you.

Let the party go on.

First of all, let me use this opportunity to thank you for the pictorial contributions and updates that you have been making. You and and investnow2013 are doing amazing job.

Now back to the issue. This is a project I have been following closely. The plan during Jonathan's administration was to use the infrastructural section of the sovereign wealth fund started by ngozi okonjo iweala to fund the 30% share of the FGN part of the project. The fund was managed by Mr. Uche Orji who is an expert. He clearly stated on various interviews on how the bridge would be funded.

This was agreed upon and signed by Julius Berger and FGN.

Julius Berger being the majority share holder would build and maintain the bridge while using toll booth will recoup their investment.

My opinion;

This was a good deal. If the contruction company would build and maintain the bridge. They have been reputable for decades and Nigerian government has failed to mange simple roads not to talk of massive projects like the Niger bridge.

If we all must be truthful to ourselves some ain't comfortable with the tolling idea,
Some ain't even abreast of the fact that tolling was part of the deal initially,

Like other critical infrastructures like loko - oweto bridge were not tolled, 3MB were not tolled, so why toll 2NB

Anyway, the most important thing now is that work is going on, so completion is key.

Sometimes in life, when you are doing things that will benefit people in the future, they don't value it.
For example, I used to hate going to school but today I thank God that my father dragged me to school.

I will rather pay toll and have a well built and maintained bridge by a reputable company than depend on federal government yearly allocation to build and maintain this critical bridge.

Just my 2 kobo.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N10.7billion for the establishment of 10 new rice mills.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Ministers of State for Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri after the Council’s meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Lokpobiri said that the Council approved the 10 rice mills with the capacity to produce 100 tonnes per day, and the mills would be managed by private rice millers.

“Today the Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of 10 very large rice mills to enhance the milling capacity of rice value chain in the country.

“Few years ago it was reported that this country needs a minimum of 100 large rice mills. As of today we have about 21 but Federal Government in its wisdom decided that today we should approve the establishment of 10 at the total cost of N10.7billion.

“These would be given to the sector to manage which they will be pay back within a given timeframe as it would be agreed between the Bank of Agriculture and the Rice Millers,’’ he said.

According to the minister, the mills will be located in Kebbi, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Bayelsa, Anambra, Kaduna, Ogun, Niger and Bauchi states.

Big up to the government,
I'm at peace with the involvement of private sector,
This is another huge boost for obiano's drive for diversification, backward integration in agriculture.

I guess Anambra mill is that of Coscharies rice mill CBN is funding?

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN ) said it will fund the rice milling plant for the 2000 -hectare Coscharis Farm located at Anaku, in Anambra State , to ensure that the product is made available to consumers.
Besides, the apex bank has reassured that it ’s ready to support any entrepreneurial initiative aimed at liberating the country from the stronghold of endless importation of items that can be made locally .
CBN Governor , Godwin Emefiele , who made the remarks during the tour of the rice farm , expressed pleasure for switch to agriculture by a company he described as being in the business of machines, spare parts , and car importation for decades .
“ We started this with him , about two years ago when we granted him a N2 billion Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS) . With his own resources , he added to it and that is why he is where he is today .
“ We have naira , and we would lend to people so that we can grow our food and feed our people . Forecast has it that by 2050, Nigeria would have the third largest population in the world . So , we need to begin to prepare for that day. Nobody is going to prepare for us and we must be able to feed our people, ” the governor said.
He reiterated that there is no foreign exchange to import food , especially when we can produce those items in the country.
The Managing Director of the farm , Dr . Cosmas Maduka , however, urged government to urgently respond to entrepreneurial challenges besetting the development and growth of businesses in the country.
Maduka said that beside the foreign exchange challenges, many other issues relating to the growth of private initiatives are left unattended , even at ministry level .
He said that the farm will provide full time employment for about 3000 people, as well as drive ancillary industrial growth in the state when all the phases of the investment are complete.
He said the farm phase of the business currently employs over 250 people , adding that the rice mill and irrigation components of the investment for which the CBN has given approval in principle to finance, will significantly enhance the capacity of the business to create more jobs and boost economic activities

I don't know why many industries in Anambra find it difficult to embrace digital age? More than 95% of the industries in Nnewi and many in Onitsha and environs, they don't have websites, Omota holdings, John white industries, Uru industries, Cento industries, Ebunso group of companies, Ejamatu group of companies, Louis carter industries, ADswite PLC, Geomex industries, Eastern detergent and Soap, Kate's associates makers of Cool breeze deodorants and perfume and many others industries, they don't have websites and these are massive industries

That airport is desirable but not a priority.

The priority is to make the refinery functional, get captive gas for a small power plant to supply an industrial complex there and dualize the 33 road from GRA Onitsha to Umuleri and perhaps to reach Aguleri. It will open up a virgin area of the state for massive development.

Actually the real reason I care about the airport its because of the new city and industrial zone attached to the plan. So I am 100% with you on this.

Yes, my fear is that to get the airport done quickly, they may cut corners and build another shoddy airstrip that no international airline will agree to risk their plane to land there. Kaduna and Enugu airports still have problems attracting reputable international airlines. It tells you a lot needs to happen to attract international airlines

The priority is to push the economic agenda of the state by opening up the area north of Onitsha through dualization of 33 road up to at least Umuleri.. Then get the refinery operational to spur economic activities. Whenever the airport is completed, it will only add to what is already on the ground. The airport is the last event to happen in the agenda and not the first.

You're 100% in order asking for pics and updates on the ongoing construction works at the airport. Asking for pics and updates doesn't mean you're saying providing captive gas supply to power industrial clusters and constructing new roads are still not important.

The MOU for the airport was signed more than a year ago, and it's a three year project so we have two more years to go. Also, when Obiano was campaigning for a second term they used the airport for campaign, and i remember there's a youtube clip showing a gov't official (during the campaign) conducting an interview against the backdrop of bulldozers clearing and grading the site for the proposed airport. So yes, we all would like to see updates.

Chimamanda Adichie served as the Lead Narrator for the Malaria Summit London 2018, which was co-hosted by the governments of Rwanda, Swaziland, and the United Kingdom on April 18th ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Meeting. Ms. Adichie shared two stories centered on her personal experience with the disease. Other speakers included Bill Gates and HRH Prince Charles.

The aim of the event was to accelerate the fight against malaria by calling for increased funding and political leadership, development of new innovative tools to address the evolving nature of the disease, and better data-driven solutions. Attendees included Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders from the private sector and international organizations.

The Summit, titled "Ready to Beat Malaria", concluded with a commitment to halve malaria in the Commonwealth by 2023.
