No Clean Title US Used Cars Sold In Nigeria Ignore Your Car Dealer. by amliftedhigher: 2:21pm On Apr 29, 2018
Good day nairalanders, happy Sunday to all of us. In recent weeks I have been searching for used Lexus Rx 350 cars especially 2007-2009. I have been searching through copart, Auction export, Iaai, ridesafely etc. I have observed that 99% of cars in Lagos are either over high mileage cars, savage or accident cars or flood damage cars. I have search for clean used cars in the US and the price I saw surprise me. They sale used cars based on mileage for example, a 2007 Rx 350 is been sold at $12,000, now do the calculation include $1,200 For shipping it will be $13,200 = 4,752,000 excluding clearing. Now how much is a Lexus Rx 350 2007 in Lagos? Check and know your self. My advice is for you and me to check the car history through VIN verification that will tell you what exactly you are buying.
Some car dealers will buy high mileage cars of 280,000 ,when it gets to Lagos they will reduce it to 80,000 and sell it as clean low mileage car.
I hereby submit that no Nigerian car dealer sales clean low mileage US used cars.

Am a dealer. I know a few that sell clean title cars. But the prices are extremely high. That will tell you 2005 corolla is 2.5m last. And me will sell my salvage 1.8m after repair.

Am still yet to understand the purpose of this thread, it's because u don't sell cars hence all this ranting.

If you had clearly defined salvaged and clean title it would have made more sense.

Clean title doesn't mean it's a better car neither does salvage make it a bad car, its all paper work.

A 2006 corolla with 180,000 miles and has passed all inspection and also without an accident will most likely be Clean title.

A 2006 corolla with 56,000 miles with a minor accident and requires may be bumper or a fender will be termed salvage but is far more better than the so called clean title with 180,000 miles.
The clean title will sell for a higher price but is definitely not a better car and I won't even buy such.

You even get the best VALUE FOR MONEY buying salvage if u know the trick as you get a very clean and low mileage for a super good price compared to the overated clean title.
No doubt alot of people sell junks and high mileage as low mileage after rolling down but making salvage cars looked like a no go area is not ideal. There are still salvage cars been driven in the same America.

The issue is that we Nigerians want low mileage cars at cheap rate. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a high mileage clean title car. That is what I did 5 years ago. I bought a clean title car from a dealer via nairaland with mileage of 193k as at the time. This is now 5 years and no major issue. See pics of my Camry which I am still rocking below.

You are saying the same thing with me but with a different tone. You see what am saying is that is better you know that this car is savage ,over mileage, or flood car and you are buying it than a dealer selling It to you as clean cars because clean US used cars are very expensive for majority of our car dealers to buy and Resale Also majority of Nigerians will not buy it.

I keep telling people mileage is just a number. It doesn't determine the performance of a Vehicle. Maintenance is the key. Most Cars with high mileage are Clean Title Cars 1 Owner with highway miles.
This is a bitter truth they won't tell you but will be quick to invade people's thread asking for Vin. How many people can interpret or understand Vin Report. Go to Dubai and see 2017 Camry with 300,000 miles in just 1 year and still in top shape but trust Nigerians, the moment they see mileage above 150,000 they rule-out the Car. This gives room for Dealers to rollback odometer

This is absolutely true but the issue remains our Nigerians foul mentality.
As long as we continue patronising American scrappage we'll continue being exploited. I once requested a clean title ML350 from my two cousins. One lives in Corpus Christi Texas and the other in Rotterdam Netherlands. While the one in Texas gave me a quotation of $23,000 the one in Rotterdam was giving me €15,000 which shows that clean title vehicles are cheaper in Europe than the USA. Cars are very expensive in the USA except all these accidents/flood rubbish they feed us.

As a car dealer you are, don't you think is better to tell your clients truth about the car you want to sell than reducing the mileage which is fraud?

How many Nigerians can afford to buy these cars at that price?

My advise, run the vin of any car you want to buy, know the car details and bargain with the dealer if you cool with it

Wherw did he mention in his posts that he reduces mileage of his own cars?..
Read and understand peoples message before quoting them
Its annoying reading wrong interpretations.

I came across a 2012 camry with 310k Miles. And i mean Miles.
The car runs and move like brand new.
I used to think the odometer was an error until i checked the vin report.

Some people will go online and check copart or autotrader and think its as simple as it is to buy a car.
Even if you buy a car on auction for $500 (06 below vehicle )
It will still cost close to a million to land it in your door step excluding repairs.
Some people can't handle information properly once they know a car is salvaged or high mile. They think it should be sold for peanuts.
Make them kuku go thief the motor for oyinbo hand. Rather than paying shipping and trucking they can also drive it themselves all the way from Galveston Texas to Lagos.

I can only speak for myself in this case. I disclose every detail of whatever I sell whether minor or severe including pre-purchase pictures. I remember vividly when I started full disclosure including Vin Reports here on NL, I was rebuffed by my fellow dealers but where are they today? Disclosing is one thing, sellers understanding is another thing.
I sold a Clean Title 04 Corolla with 110,000 miles last week, to my surprise the buyer insists I change the mileage to 60,000 miles, all my explanation turned deaf ears. Will such person buy a Vehicle with 250,000 miles? Absolutely not.
See how neat the attached Camry is, 1 Owner with 215,000 highway miles. It may interest you the competition I faced before winning the bid. Ironically, these type of Cars doesn't come cheap because owner always maintain them well. It will be advertised and Sell here on NL

Nice one from you. Keep it up with the truth. But what was the buyer of the corolla thought about mileage? He thought reducing it to 60k will help the car or will make it fly?
Haha ignorance is a problem oh

Theoretically, a vehicle that has covered more miles has more wear and tear, but a car with 60,000 miles on the odometer can easily be in worse shape than one with 120,000 miles. ... Overall, a high-mileage vehicle that is driven frequently and has been well-maintained will be a more reliable bet.

Comment: no disrespect, but you are ignorant of the information you provided. The milleage of 'Any used car ' doesnt give any life span guarantee of that car . I've been in the car business for 8 years now and I've sold both high and low mileage cars to my clients without any complaints till date. From my experience in this car business ,I've seen a car with 30k Miles with a broken engine as a result of Engine OIL SLUDGE build up . So basically when investing in a used car ,just pray that you find a great car regardless of the miles.

Tips:

When you buy any used car here or yonder, first thing you should do is :

Open the oil sump ,remove the sump's filter
Wash the filter or replace depending on the miles with petrol or thinner ensuring that it's clean
Was the oil pan/ sump with petrol or thinner too
Change the oil with a high grade motor oil
Invest in an original engine oil filter too

Follow the same steps for the transmission too and I bet that you would not have any problems with both the engine and transmission considering the car was bought in good condition with no engine sounds or underlying problems . Goodluck friends and thank me later
