romeorailss:Take time to study the idea behind paternity leave properly. For instance, the entire world is rushing to Canada in our time because of low crime and good living conditions. Part of it is due to how they bring up their kids. Canada has 18 months paternity leave in some parts of the country. Compare that with the broken family system of next door neighbor America that is linked to the high crime and incarceration numbers. Spending maximum time with your kids is a progressive policy. The idea has merit. |

They are not affected so they wont support it. they are not civilised servants and they have all their time to themselve so how would supporting parternity leave benefit them. that is the kind of leaders we have. ![]() |

Paternity leave of at least a week should be given to men. There are couples that live far away from there families. When the woman gives birth, there is no helping hand around wen the man is at work |

Please if you don't understand a particular subject, kindly ask questions for clarification. Paternity leave is good, some persons are already enjoying it here in Nigeria. Especially the Oil company workers. ( 3 to 8 working days within one month of your baby's arrival) A husband's presence is a source of emotional support to a nursing mother and create window for father and Child bonding at that early stage. i believe some day you will desire and possibly request for paternity leave. |

Neyoor:So women were the ones who voted the bill down? ![]() @Post: Nigerian lawmakers are not only foolish, but extremely useless! What da fvck is "not necessary" about paternity leave? If a firm like Exxon Mobil can give her fathers such a perquisite. Why not a country? A paternity leave is NECESSARY because it is important for newly minted dads to bond with their kids and wives. Thereby fostering good family relationship, care for the family from the male; both parents ensuring the child(ren) get the best from them regarding emotional, financial, psychological, mental and even spiritual (for religious folks) care. But no! Cretins in the "fool-wed" house won't know this. But paternal leave should be maximum at one month, especially in a country where men constitute the greater percentage of the working population. And it should be a paid leave even if it's half the pay. |

The rate at which sex is happening in Niveria and pregnancy occuring if they grant paternity leave half of the offices in Naija would be vaccant everyday. Typical Naija family has around 4 kids and some naija men have multiple wives. If they grant such men paternity leave the econony of naija will crumble. They can afford to do that in countries where average family has 2 kids and the average man has 1 wife. Anyway, to make them vote for anything propose an increase in their allowances and see them rushing to vote YES! |

Gerrard59:Lol! I understand your plight but deep down and if we observe keenly, we will understand Nigeria problem is nothing but the forceful marriage that unites us all together. The Northerners are not on thesame lane of westernisation, education and civilisation with the southerners and painfully, they are the most populous and formed the basis of the most decision making in Nigeria. The first female speaker in Nigeria was actually impeached not because of the money she was accused of stealing but because it is against the tradition of the northerners to allow a female to rise up to the leadership position. They believe a woman belongs to the other room and Nigerian president has not even failed to display to us the thinking of a common northerners when he said his wife belongs to the other room. Not until restructuring is done or this Lord Luggard's marriage dissolves, we will always be having problem in some decision making in this country. |

delishpot:I understand your concerns. However, it can be modified. An example: - The leave is only for a month. - Not more than 2 men (depending on the staff strength of the firm) in the same firm or department can be given the leave at the same time. - If the man's wife is undergoing maternity leave in a different organisation (or even the same org), the husband gets his after she is done. - Only for families that have the maximum of three kids. After three, you cannot get it again. There can be exemptions when he has two and twins (or more) are newly procreated. - Only half the pay And many more. |

Paternity leave is common with multinationals, took mine 2 years ago with NB PLC. It's a good idea for public n private sectors to share strong bound with the latest bundle of joy. |
