Whilst the rest of the world is stimulating internal growth and boosting the manufacturing sector to trigger a sustainable development of her economy, the Nigerian government is busy with currency swap deal that will further make the Nigerian industries less competitive. When a country is ruled by selfish and visionless leaders! I weep for my motherland.
America recording 4% unemployment rate, Nigeria government celebrating currency swap to further impoverish her citizens whilst empowering the Chinese economy. I need another citizenship please.

Is it not this APC lying governemnet again. When the time comes for showdown it's the same banks that will tell you that they don't have Chinese currency in stock that you should use US dollars instead. No be Nigerian banks again. Abeg make I bear word with this white elephant project deal.

someone like you will not do a new business successfully because of your myopic mind. In every deal expect that one of the party will benefit more than other, just focus on your own gain if it pays you

Egypt has been going through a strict three-year economic reform program since late 2016, starting with local currency floatation to contain dollar shortage followed by austerity measures, energy subsidy cuts and tax increases.

I guess President Buhari's relatives caused artificial forex scarcity in Egypt.

Hmmm
They have started again with their half baked analysis. In order to score some cheap political points, they are hyping the deal too early in the game. If I were them, i'll prefer to wait at least 1 to 2 years down the line to see the effect on the economy.

Funniest response ever. Simple principle of demand and supply already shows Forex is not available. That is why the central bank spends a lot of money to flood the market with dollars to prevent the price from running high.
rewind back to 2016 when the same CBN was withholding Fx abi where they practising trial and error when they fixed different exchange rates.

Guy look deeper Nigeria's scarcity is artificial

But entrepreneurs can seize the opportunity to import capital goods like machineries and other stuffs to boost local production.

A journey of a Thousand miles begins with one step. The current process has the potential of boosting exportation of raw Materials and later some Chinese companies can start their branches here to reduce cost of production.

We can not swap our fingers and expect to have a low unemployment rate.

Looks good on paper.

Theoretically, the dollar demand should drop since we will be importing directly in the currency of the host country which has been swapped with our own naira.

And China constitute over 30% of our imports so this is massive.

I hope this is available to the general public most notably igbo importers so that basic commodities like phones and laptops and other electronics e.t.c can become less expensive.

I'm also hope the FG is smart enough to maximise this at every stage because the Chinese will be looking for the better end of the deal.

It is global economics, especially a problem faced by Oil producing countries. It is not just a Nigerian problem. So pointing at the evidence in another African Oil producing country shows your so called artificial forex scarcity is not true.

We could not sustain a fixed exchange rate due to scarcity of Forex at that time. This caused the price of dollars to shoot high. The partial float and the flooding of the market with forex helped cushion the effect. This deal has the potential of Reducing pressure on our Limited forex.

It has the potential due to our reduced dependence on dollars for large volume of trade with China.

This was done in April, 2016, long before Trump became President. This is just a continuation of the process.

Who delayed or cancelled it? It is a long process. This press release does not mean it begins tomorrow. It is a work in
progress.

While it might facilitate efficient international trade with China, it still doesn't change the fact that Nigeria have very little to sell or offer to China , thereby increasing the imports from China and making China govt richer.

My take to Nigeria govt...

Fix and modernize the industries in Nigeria.

is it the nigerian govt responsibility to fix and modernize industries?

it's scary cuz chinese currency is highly manipulated by the govt to boost export..such country shouldn't be trusted by the international community....
Re: How Nigeria Will Benefit From Currency Swap Deal With China by Horus(m): 10:07pm On May 04, 2018
The agreement will allow Nigerian traders and businesses, which imports mainly from China conclude their transactions in the Chinese currency, the Renminbi (Yuan), instead of the dollar. The new agreement would see Nigeria-China trades, which accounts for over 70 percent of imports into Nigeria, concluded in the Yuan.Until now over 90 percent of international trades between Nigeria and the world is done in dollars, and in the process putting so much pressure on the Naira. The CBN is expected to diversify a huge chunk of Nigeria’s foreign reserve from the dollars to the Yuan to perfect the agreement.“It means that the renminbi (Yuan) is free to flow among different banks in Nigeria, and the renminbi has been included in the foreign exchange reserves of Nigeria

china stands to gain more from this deal and that is the only reason why they agreed to it in the first place .
this deal will do only one thing effectively and that is MAKE IMPORTATION FROM CHINE EASIER and maybe cheaper.
this is all good and this is what china wants , they need the biggest market in africa so removing a major headache for nigerian business ppl wanting to buy from china is in china best interest , they are always looking for a dumping ground for their products , this may eventually kill off many industries .
what government needs to do is to stipulate the kind of goods importers can use this facility for , if not then nigeria is in deep shit
