I like good news as much as anyone (and am equally contemptuous of both the APC and the PDP), but this report is extremely misleading: it confuses an increase in portfolio investment - which can just as quickly be pulled out - with the foreign direct investment that makes the biggest difference to economic growth in the long term. Unfortunately for the Buhari government and its defenders, FDI under his tenure has collapsed, and shows no sign of recovery, which is not surprising considering Buhari's senseless fixed-exchange rate policy remains in place. No sane investor wants to pour money into a country whose currency rate is unsupported by the fundamentals, for fear of having the investment's value suddenly collapse when the ruse becomes unsustainable and a drastic devaluation occurs.

Nobody is asking for your investment.

Wait 5 more years when you might feel more optimistic.

The statistics are up there for you to see, 594% from what really?
You mean you can write but can't read?

Don't tell me you just asked what composed the 594% growth when it was clearly detailed in the post.

If you ain't happy with what you can see, feel, hear or touch, I doubt that I can make you happy remotely.

So you feel its wise to compare from 2017 but not wise to compare from a much better year?.

Nigerians including myself are obviously not happy with what they feel/hear or touch with the current administration..

We feel poor
We hear lies
Touching comes with death and insecurity.

Now this is statistics not propaganda

Thise properly informed in economics understand how numbers like this the OP posted can be used to sway the uninformed yet it has no real impact on the life of the common man

A serious government shows stats like
Percentage reduction in consumer goods prices
Percentage reduction in accommodation rentage prices
Percentage reduction in food prices
Percentage reduction in crime
Percentage reduction in unemployment
Percentage reduction in death rarte due to insecurity
Not pandering useless statistics this government is know to do

America showed the other day that unemployment has drop to less than 9% that is a record and that is a serious government not this rubbish APC is doing !!

Thank you for this

When I saw the post I just hissed to myself

This is what Bill Gates meant when he said buhari's government is focusing on the wrong things !!!!

A government who knows what they are doing is very clear to all
This is recommendable, I decided not to talk until a more educated and informed person speaks up so I won't sound like the rest uninformed ones who has spiting thrash.

Growth is measured with advancements in technology, per capita income, employment rate, GDP and do on.

This thread is neither for revisionists not pessimists.
The NBS has churned out that bit of information it drums - statistics.

You on the other hand have brought up nothing but your negative gut because it goes against your inner wishes.

Since your pessimism cannot be quantified, since your reluctance for investment would be transmitted to your foreign business partners, we the patriots of Nigeria ask that you wait 5 more years perhaps you might feel better then.

Exactly

It is very sad that this government knows nothing about good governance

They rely so much on propaganda, hence why it isn't hard for one to see clearly they lack ideas on how to fix Nigeria

Propaganda is only used where there's no real measurable achievement to show

In a way you can't blame them, nigeria's education index is very low

The government have been using propaganda to influence the masses for long especially before the internet age dawned on us, back then we believed whatever we saw published in the newspapers or broadcast on radio ) tv

But today we all have a voice thanks to the internet

This story won't go far, as counter commentators like myself spread the truth whenever and wherever

So rest assusred the dawn of a revolution beckons

So, the official NBS numbers for FDI are no longer statistics, but merely my "negative gut"? And "patriotism" is now redefined as uncritically swallowing spin that is easily refuted by reading any objective, quality source of information on the economics of growth? You think "patriotism" (aka blindly supporting Buhari) is what any business person will use to decide how they will dispose of their hard-earned private funds? You think business is charity work?

Maybe you should try telling the World Bank, the IMF, the Financial Times and The Economist to adopt your ridiculous definition of "patriotism", because all of them are saying exactly what I've said: Buhari's economic illiteracy has turned what should have been a temporary slowdown into a deep recession, and 2018 is set to see Nigerians' per capita GDP shrink for a third year in succession, after 25 years of buoyant growth. Buhari has no place even being near Aso Rock, and the tragedy for Nigeria is that no one remotely qualified looks set to challenge this at best half-educated, sick old man 2019.

Perhaps, you feel poor and insecure, I don't.

The economy and infrastructure sectors are certainly receiving better attention than what we saw in the last decade. How do you explain the over 150% increase in budget figures and releases to critical sectors in the recent years, in comparison with what we had in period 2010-2014 when there was oil boom?

I really don't think all news should be tagged bad because one feels bad within themselves. The economy is looking up, and will eventually rub off on a greater number of people who are productively engaged.

Only a revolution can save this country , wishful thinking that these evil.men will grow a conscience is nothing but a pipedream

They will continue to rotate and rule and rotate and rule and deceive and manipulate the masses

They will offer stones for bread and.hot air for a cool breeze

Things will never ever change and do you know why? Greed is never satisfied!

Greed will always want more
The only way Nigeria can change is if there's a bloody revolution and these political.elite and their friends and massacred

That's the crude harsh reality

And until that happens just brace yourselves for more of the same !

If anyone thinks buhari's next four years will improve anything then that person is a classic recidivist

Things will not change fuel prices will be increased with claims.of removing subsidy which will.not happen the increases in fuel are to line their pockets

Rent will continue going up, food prices will continue going up

Health care standard will continue falling

Security will get worse

More and more jobs will be lost

More companies will flee the harsh economy of Nigeria

The international community will not come here and do what we must do.ourselves

150% increase in budget figures, how much of 2015/2016/2017 budget was implemented?

If we have a debt of over $20bn with over 50% of it from 2015 - 2018 which in the right sense is suppose to be used for infrastructure to enable the nation create wealth to not just pay back but also increase its standard of living. How did we arrive at that figure without the infrastructure actually seen but only on paper.

Productively engaged, so the over 100m Nigerians that complained about the economy are not productively engaged?

Yes the economy is looking up from 2017 i guess, how about 2014 before the loss of over 10m jobs?

What's your reference for the over 10m job lose?

100million Nigerians complaining about the economy? That must include aborted, unborn children and those yet to be conceived right?

Are you aware that the Agric sector alone has created over 5million jobs? I won't go to the other sectors. More than 15 large-scale rice mills came up stream in the last three years, that includes Labana, Ashi, Umza, Mika etc.

https://www.nairaland.com/1558518/videos-15-new-rice-mills

It is laughable when you say that projects executed by this administration are only on paper and do not justify the increasing debt. Perhaps, you haven't been travelling or keeping abreast of the activities of the current administration for reasons best known to you.

It seems we compare our current status with our worst years rather than our best years to determine actual growth.

We have seen way better under previous pdp

Retrospect 2008 - 2015
And what do they make out of it then? If there growth then were not ruse we won't be where we are now! Before there exit in 2015, virtually all tiers of government were owing salary.
