I was asked such questions when I was going from Amsterdam (KLM) thru Delta Airline the dude was asking so many questions, even asked to see an evidence I worked where I said I worked so I showed him the HR letter I was to show the VO during the interview.

Also was asked who bought the ticket for me lol.. I was like excuse me, what do u mean? then he realized I was almost getting angry he then sent me to a lady that issued me the new boarding pass.

Wonder who those guys are? Airline officers or Immigration officers in mufti or it’s a normal cross checking protocol to everyone traveling to the US

some of these people sef deserve slap. see kwesion sef. i go tell am" e be like say to chop slap dey hungry you"

Hello all we have been issued visa as a family however I am the only one going kids are in school hubby has to attend to issues at work , hope i won't encounter any issues at POE as a lawyer friend of mine told me not to try it that my visa will be revoked. Is this true or he is just being an alarmist

Like they told you in the other thread... it's not gonna be easy for you to do but it's something you can do.
get your ticket and give them a good reason at POE.

@seyewest. I got a US visa in 2016 intention was for a family vacation in Florida ,however due to a very tight work schedule and preparation. For professional exams which I just passed I plan to travel now. Here's the challenge
1. Going with the family( wife and 2 kids aged 2 and 4)
2. Traveling via Etihad ( We know there is a pre screening centre)
3. Plan to go to New York and no more Florida cos someone is willing to Host us for free( indicated no immediate or distant relative in the USA also)
4. It's our first trip to the US but not outside Nigeria.
5. Visa to expire in October thus the need to use it
Problem is the rate of Assylum seekers going via New York makes me uncomfortable . note I don't be plans to run or seek Assylum
A medical doctor with banker wife and 2 Kids average earner and one once denied Canadian visa in the past.
Pls what's the best counsel you can offer

Have you paid for your ticket?
I will advice you to travel to Florida and route your ticket in a way that you will leave through New York on your way back to Nigeria...
you can even travel to New York from Florida the day after your arrival.
It will be extremely risky to enter through New York unless you have a domestic flight that will take you to Florida or risk it all together.

@seyewest. Yes ticket was very cheap got via promo. Intention no matter how genuine is unfortunate that Assylum seeking folks are spoiling New York route. A connecting route flight is extra 600k minus hotel. Will make is penny wise pound foolish

If that's the case.... I will advice you to book hotel for at least 2 days before moving to your friend place.

Doc,dont let anyone give you wrong info. You got your Visa far back 2016 to have a vacation with your famz in Florida.Fine, you were busy with exams and could not make the vacation, now you want to spend the vacation in New York with your famz, you are good to go.Dont let anyone give you wrong info here.

You have no biz with those going to Canada to seek asylum passing through New york.

My advice, make sure you know all the details you filled on your DS160 when you applied for your Visa, and also what you told them at the Visa interview, why the change on vacation destination or why you waited for so long before you travel should incase you are pick for secondary interview at the POE which I believe you wont be pick.

He was once denied a Canadian Visa, now that U.S and Canadian Govt share info on Nigerian travelers to U.S/Canada. The Doc is worried about what may happen in Abu Dhabi which in recent time has tighten it border against Nigerian in particular especially those traveling to New York.
It's normal for him to be worried because he has read a lot about the issue(Nigerians seeking asylum in Canada by traveling through New York especially) and he's cautious.
The Abu Dhabi POE in 2016 is different from Abu Dhabi POE in 2017-18 especially for families traveling together.
I'm not saying they will be deported but with short period on their visa I'm sure they will invite them for further interview.
If my reasoning about this situation is at fault... I will apologize asap no one is perfect.

Thanks to this wonderful family for the heads-up... POE was at IAH, houston...

OFFICER: greetings
ME: replied
OFFICER: What are you doing in Houston?
ME: Am here for a Conference
OFFICER: Where?
ME : Answered
OFFICER: What will you be doing there?
ME: Told him to present my research paper
OFFICER: Tell me about it
ME: Told him
OFFICER: How long will you be staying?
ME: 20 days
OFFICER: 20 days for a conference?
ME: I will also like to visit some family members
OFFICER: OK, where will you be staying?
ME: Told him
OFFICER: Did you bring anything with you? Egusi, fish?
ME: Na so we start to dey laugh o, I said no
OFFICER: Still laughing... That means you don't like these family members of yours
ME: I said I only came with peanut bars (kulikuli) for them as they told me not to bring any food stuff...
OFFICER: laughing.. He said he doesn't know kulikuli, took my biometrics and stamped me in for six months...

NOTE: those guys are really nice... we talked like old friends... BUT I was only interviewed by one officer as against two mentioned by others here...

Emirates is SUPEREB: free onboard wifi (limited MB, you can pay if you need more) good food, fantastic staff, latest movies, free Dubai visa in and out etc... hotel for layover is cool (buffet for dinner and breakfast.. If you like food you will just wound yourself ) the only downside is wifi @ the hotel is expensive, $50 for two hrs (17K, I no fit spend that kind money for wifi)

Overall, the USA is a place to be!!! You can take that to the bank...

Looking forward to having some nice time before coming back to Naija..

Do you mean I will have a visa stamp on my passport?

Is there a stop over in UK too?
What airline and how long?

@seyewest@signature2012Thaank you all so much just to clear some light. I said No relatives immediate or distant but we do have a very close family friend we grew up to know and like atypical YORO we call him Daddy New York . He's indicated interest both to host and write a letter to that intent reason is cos he puts up with us always when ever he comes to town.
2. Reason and a sincere one why Florida won't pay us beyond extra cash is my baby screams at cartoon characters such that it's embarrassing to a fault. We don't enjoy birthdays with such characters and he won't allow us rest. It's really embarrassing . We observed our nanny use to use one of such to scare him as a baby so it's effect is bad. Well my experience in traveling is that the guys make up their mind in first 2mins of asking questions but intention and intent may seem valid facts may be funny thus my need for counsel.
I strongly believe in the multitude of SOUND COUNSEL. Some will definitely see it from another angle I may not see it.
Thank you once again.

Yes, you will have a VISA stamp in Dubai... and the bill is on emirates... I had it twice sef, while going to the US and coming back cos I had layover both ways, but your layover must be 8hrs+... emirates don't do for UK...

How do you convince them that you will return? just pray that none of the CBP officer is interested in you although they will eventually let you go if you have nothing to hide but the stress alone will be too much.

Hello @Seyewest. I am going on holiday with my family to US, final destination Houston, Texas. POE is New York.
During my interview, I stated that my intended place of visit is Florida, Disney world.
But due to the high cost at this time of the year, I opted for Houston instead.
Travelling with wife and kid.
Visa expiring in about 3wks from planned trip. Not been chanced to travel cus of work schedule.
Have hotel reservation for a night in new York, connecting flight ticket to Houston available, and hotel reservation in Houston for the duration of stay also available.
Going with RAM.
90% of funds for trip in my $ MasterCard, just carrying little cash.
Should I expect any delays at POE new York?

Less than a month is not good... I will advice you to renew your visa and travel without fear... you can even choose New York.

The thing is,we want to try and use the visa at least once before it expires, so they don't deny us renewal bcus we didn't use it the first time. Bought tickets already even

And yet we are to worry less about using NY POE? I appreciate your preparations against having issues at the POe @tfezify. I normally would have advised you fly into Houston as your POE now that Florida isn't on the table or you renew your visa first. As of now, I haven't heard of issues at NY POE. So, you can however brave it.

But wisdom let's us know that it would soon become a difficult POE to use by first timers if there's anything that looks like k-leg or a departure from your application and how you are eventually going about your trip when the time comes. Just so we know, loads of peeps are being called in for interview currently after dropbox application. Also, if you have been refused a visa in the past 6months you won't get interview date currently. Ain't these sending a message to no one?

Wrong thread. Start by paying up your bills first and getting receipts. If these are not possible, kindly kiss visiting the US bye-bye. Either ways, you are so in for a long thing.... Clearly you likely didn't even tell them of your plan to birth the first time, you are in fact joking. Pretty sorry!

@Omobendel NY POE is now like a trap even though it's cheaper to fly to New York. My advice to traveler to U.S is that they should stay up to date with current immigration policies and actions taken to implement them.
