It is written nowhere in the constitution that English is the official language of the United States. Note also during the revolution several languages including French an Dutch were spoken in the thirteen colonies,
The Founding Fathers did not make English the official language of the United States because the issue was divisive, they did not want to offend any of the foreigners who volunteered to fight for America ' s independence.
Recently (in 2006) a Senate's bill failed to make English the official English language of the U.S.
As a reminder African slaves were prohibited from learning how to write and read English .

English should not be a. disqualifying criteria to Nigerians who.want to settle in the U.S. if they only speak Hausa, Igbo , Yoruba or any of the several languages in Nigeria.

This post lack sense. In a clime where English is the language of governance, medicine, technology, and first language of more than 80% of the population, and where English is the language of the founding fathers that drafted the constitution in English, what official declaration do you want? Doesn’t that tell you something?
