graphics card or GPU is a dedicated hardware that is not only used to display on your screen like the guy above me has stated, but to render heavy graphical tasks, that otherwise would take the CPU days to complete on the same scale (gaming and 3d graphics works). Its not to be confused with a VGA card. These days the graphics card does a lot more though, like physics taking some of the grunt work from the cpu.

there used to be more manufacturers of the graphics card(matrox, s3) but now there are only two major ones with intel being a distant third; ie AMD radeon series and Nvidia geforce series. There is also the quadro series for Nvidia used solely for rendering and 3d work.

eg of such graphics cards are gtx 1080ti and Rx 580 for Nvidia and Amd respectively.

the stronger the graphics card, the more expensive dey are, in respect to their generations.

people seem to confuse ram size with power, thats a poor notion, dont be tricked. A little bit of research goes a long way. Knowing the model name of the graphics card ypu are buying is very important..If you only see something like "Nvidia 4gb graphics card for sale" please inquire about the model name and google it. i use tomshardware or reddit for clarification.

ps: intel's "graphics cards" are not really graphics cards. they are what is known as igps (integrated graphics processors) not to be confused with AMDs solution of APU (accelerated processing unit). AMDs solution is usually better on the graphical side.

I agree with you but about APU's being better on the graphical side i disagree. When doing light gaming it is fine. I say this because an apu is just like how intel processors have their integrated graphics but on AMD's side, the apu's graphics processor is better. But when you add a dedicated graphics card the amd processor tends to bottleneck and reduce your performance

If you read carefully you see that the comparison was done to the intel igp and since the thread is based on graphics, i only based my statement on that. And you yourself have agreed that the Apu is better on the graphical side. so i dont know exactly what you r disagreeing to.

yes you can, provided its a desktop. there are very few laptops that allow this but they really are few...i havent seen one before. however there are mods for external graphics cards to be connected, but its quite expensive and not worth it becos it uses the usb port which isnt nearly fast enuff for the data transfer.. i stand to be corrected on this one. But ideally, laptops are almost impossible to upgrade gpus on. so better get a desktop.

most gpus these days require external power since the pci express lanes do not have enuff to power de gpus alone. so in order to run most gpus in a desktop one is required to buy a power supply, a good one, preferably the 500w with good amperage sporting 6pin pci e and an 8pin pci e cables. antec, be quiet, thermatake etc are very good ones.

also mke sure to buy a dx 11 or 12 card...any thing less is a waste of time and money.

research what you r going to buy.

Sorry i misread one of the parts. The thing that i was disagreeing on is that intels integrated graphics are greatly improving and with the new ryzen series, amd is moving on from the apus and is going with integrated graphics. AMD still has great integrated graphics but with things like the intel graphics 520 (which come with an i7) and can run GTA V is amazing.

Yes as long as the motherboard and the processor can handle the graphics card and everything is compatible.

As good as the intel igps are they are not a match for amd APUs on the graphical side. there is even a never before seen one about to be announced soon.

Again i dont know what you are disagreeing to. their improvements was never in doubt...its deir present abilities i am referring to. intel might compete soon enough tho but lets wait and see. But considering both on die solutions, Amd is on top.

No sir. its quite impossible. normal laptops are not made with customisation in mind. you see how compact it is? its barely getting cooled as is, imagine slotting a gpu that produces heat than any computer component in there. you have to accompany your lappy with liquid nitrogen. Also the igp cannot be removed since it comes with the cpu, and there are no slots to push in another.

like i stated before there are mods but its not worth it, charley (yeah im part of the charley people lol)

OK, thanks Charley. That means I am stock with it till I get another 1. Meanwhile permit me to chip this in, please what kind of games can my lappy now run? Intel HD 4000. Can it run any windows game that came out before 2010? Or is there a way for me to know what it can run? Then emulation, a laptop emulating game consoles, how important is the graphic card in this regard? Cause I want to run pcxs, a ps2 emulator on my lappy. Ll it run smoothly since its Intel and not nvidia am using? Sorry Charley, I managed to squeeze in about 2 questions there.

unless you will be buying the games i suggest you try them yourself and see if they are good enuff for u. ive been using a graphics card for a while now and have grown accustomed to the graphics dey produced. i cannot do with intel igp hd4000, but maybe you can. but im very sure it wont be favourable so im going to say no. as for pcsx2 pls dont try it. even though pcsx2 and most emultors use cpsus alot, it requires a competent graphics processor. by brute force alot a gtx 280 a dx 10 gpu is much more capable than the hd4000.

if you r serious, pls forget that laptop and get a desktop, even an i3 as a starter....dnt get a dell desktop tho, they are too customised. otherwise live with de fact that it wnt play much.

In non-terminological terms, a video card or video adapter is a part of a computer (often a connected board) that processes information and transmits it to the screen. They come in different types and sizes, with or without a cooling system. It is thanks to the video card that you see the image on your monitor. The video card is engaged in image processing (rendering) while watching videos, playing games, and even when just looking at the desktop. If it was not there, then your PC (or tablet / smartphone / laptop / console, etc.) simply would not display images and you would not see anything. That is why it is worth choosing a high-quality video card that will cope with the task assigned to it. If you need a new video card, but you don't know what to choose (I understand you, because now there are a huge number of video cards that differ only in brand), then visit https://bestbudget.com/electronics/gaming/graphics-card/ . Perhaps there you will find what you are looking for.

A Graphics Card is a piece of computer hardware that produces the image you see on a monitor. The Graphics Card is responsible for rendering an image to your monitor https://www.casino-lux.org/, it does this by converting data into a signal your monitor can understand.

people seem to confuse ram size with power, thats a poor notion, dont be tricked. A little bit of research goes a long way. Knowing the model name of the graphics card ypu are buying is very important..If you only see something like "Nvidia 4gb graphics card for sale" please inquire about the model name and google it. i use tomshardware or reddit for clarification.

Nice, especially that ram part, I often tell people ram is the least I would consider when buying a laptop because ram is the easiest replaceable part on a laptop
