Www.anctherapist.com What is high blood pressure? High blood pressure popularly known medically as hypertension, is regarded as a silent killer. Unknowingly, hypertension penetrates the heart of men. It is regarded as 21st century sickness. It is a modern age virus. The fast pace of life and the mental and physical pressure caused by the industrial and metropolitan environment gives rise to psychological and physiological tensions worry and mental tension increases the adrenaline in the blood stream, and in turn causes the blood to rise above the normal level. The blood which circulates through the arteries within the body supplied every cell nourishment and oxygen. The force exert the heart as it pumps the blood into the large arteries creates a pressure within them and this is known as blood pressure. A certain level of the blood pressure is therefore essential to keep the blood circulating in the body. This narrowing puts more stress on the heart to pump more blood through the blood vessels. Hence the pressure of the blood to get through rises in promotion to the pressure on the heart. The instrument used to measure blood pressure is called sphygmomanometer in millimeters of mercury. During each heart beat, the highest pressure reached is called systolic pressure and the lowest pressure between two beats is called diastolic pressure.
