I have never experienced Parvo neither am I a Parvo expert but from what I have seen or maybe read(don't remember which) yur dog is supposed to be on steady drip male sure she is always hydrated and others stuffs well maybe vincentjk can help since his pup survived Parvo

No offence bro, but I just have a few things to say about your pup supposedly surviving 'Parvo' :

1. Not all cases of diarrhoea (watery stool) in dogs are caused by Parvo.

2. Not all cases of bloody diarrhoea in dogs are caused by Parvo. Ordinary worms in the intestines can cause bloody diarrhoea.

3. Parvo usually presents with severe vomiting, hence making it very difficult to treat with drugs given by mouth.

4. The severity of the vomiting, in addition to the diarrhoea, causes the dog to get severely dehydrated very quickly, hence the need for drip. Rehydration by mouth is usually not possible because of the vomiting.

We dog lovers and owners tend to over diagnose every case of watery poo, especially with blood, in our pets as Parvo...some of us have even boasted about treating Parvo on our own at home with drugs we gave by mouth...

Am not a vet o, but I have experienced Parvo first hand, and its definitely not the type of canine disease you joke with or handle on your own at home. Even when handled by an experienced vet, it is often fatal, especially for young pups and unvaccinated dogs.

Just my opinion though!!!

everybody in Nigeria will just be screaming parvo parvo.. a dog once had bloody stool, vomiting and diarrhea, everyone was screaming PARVO... after tests were carried out, it turned out to be Ulceration of the GIT.

When my older rott had Parvo @ 8months of age, the vomiting was so severe and non-stop that I was forced to drip him myself in the night because I knew if I did nothing that night he wouldn't survive to see the light of day. I even gave injections to stop the vomiting, but nothing worked. The poor dog was so weak that it didn't even move a muscle as I was pricking him with my needles trying to find a vein.

I just did what I had to do to get the dog through the night & 1st thing the next morning took him to an animal hospital where he was boarded and treated for 4 good days before being discharged in good health.

By the way, not a single drug was administered by mouth through out entire treatment because the dog vomited anything that goes in orally.

In my very limited experience, the vomiting in Parvo is even worse than the diarrhoea...

I swear ...two of my dogs had parvovirus, one of em died the next day. The other survived but it hindered the growth a little .

So sorry for your loss bro. But how do you mean Parvo hindered the growth of the surviving one? Thot Parvo was an acute illness that resolves completely within a few days, if at all, so how could it have affected the dog's growth in the long run

my dogs siblings ( can I say that ) esp the males became bigger than him. He's very huge though but not compared to his bros.

Were they all raised together, under same conditions and fed with same food?

Still finding it difficult seeing how Parvo can affect the growth of a dog in the long term after surviving, and being fed with the right quality and quantity of food, all other things being equal of course.

lolx...de weren't raised together in the same environment though but a vet told me parvo atimes hinders the full growth of a dog. I don't know sha....but I fed him diamond till he turned 8months , then I started with raw meat, bones,homemade dog food, then I started with arion after that, he's on arion now, don't get me wrong he's still huge Nd agile . But just not as big as his siblings (males) let's just say he's shorter than me...but fatter

Well I guess a vet should know better but I'm still not convinced. All litter mates, even of same sex, can not be same size na haba...
