Oba Of Benin's Challenge To Religious People? by mrrights: 7:45pm On Jun 07, 2018
Oba of Benin Kingdom, Oba Akenzua N'Iso n'orro II, who reigned between 1933 – 1978 after the death of Eweka II, threw a challenge to the so called religious people of the world, particularly Christianity and Islam.
The Oba challenged them to give him one reason, why he should abandon the Benin religion in favor of any other religion.

He said:
"I would rather serve my God in the Benin way;I would rather worship him in the Benin manner; I will sing songs of praise to him in the Benin custom;Unless it can be proven to me that he does not understand the Benin language"

No person has been able to respond to this challenge 40 years after the Oba died.

I am now throwing back this challenge to each and everyone of us so as to engage in a real intellectual debate over our faith and religion.

Can you please challenge the notion that, "I would rather serve my God in the Benin way;I would rather worship him in the Benin manner; I will sing songs of praise to him in the Benin custom;Unless it can be proven to me that he does not understand the Benin language".

Not only hellfire, as if you were there when they were laying the foundation of hell. I still can't fathom why people reason this way. Carry your bible and go to the kids, they need it. Omo jesu kristi

I'm a Benin man. The Bini's don't have any particular deity or god that they worship, they engage in ancestral worship.

So I doubt the authenticity of that statement you ascribed to the oba. Which god was he referring to
The Bini's have no god, just ancestors.

This is not true. even if we are not sure about the quote which has been attributed to Oba Akenzuwa N'isorho.

It is important to push back on your narrative that the binis dont have any deity or God. We had and still have.

In Bini, it is believed that Ogoduwa N' Udazi also referred to as Osanobua (God almighty) created the Universe and sent his children to earth. The children became gods which inlcudes but not limited to Olokun, Ogun, Orumila, Osun, Ogiuwu etc.

The Binis worship Ogoduwa in different ways, praying and asking any of the children of Ogoduwa to intercede on their behalf or asking for favours directly from the gods(Children of Ogoduwa)

This form of worhsip which is still widely practised today in Benin predates our encounter with the europeans. To prove this, the phrase 'Ogie no rie iso (Ogiso)' which was used to describe the first ruler (Oba) of Igomigodo (Former name of the Benin Kingdom) was first used in 40BC and the term 'Ogie nor rie iso' translates to the King in the sky.

The Binis as at 40BC already believed that there was a God somewhere even before our first encounter with the portugese in the 16th century.

Yes the Binis also ask their ancestors to intercedes for them and make sacrifices to them. The way the Binis worship is complex and differs from community to community but to say that they dont ve gods/Diety is false.

I will encourage you to read up on the History of Benin kingdom you can get the new book about the Kingdom which was launched in october.

When did God create Hellfire?

It was created after Satans rebellion.

It is a punishment for all who disobey be they human or spirit.

When it was created matters not.

I thought the Bible said that God finished creation in 6 days, saw that everything he created was good, and then he tested on the 7th day.

I no understand.

Cos their was no creation of anything like Hellfire within that 6 days.

While i av nothing for or against any form or method of religion.
The notion yhu are posing is ridiculous or at best skeptical.

A question like that would freeze a computer in what is called an infinite loop if a computer were to be taught to reason like a human being.

That question has no answer and purely subjective.

How do yhu know yhur conscious as a human?.

If yhu can answer my own question i would answer yhurz.
Buh i guess thats the point of the notion to be uanswerable.
