Two-Storey Building Collapses In Zaria, Four People Dead (Photos) by elhafeez(op): 5:25pm On Jun 08, 2018

A two storey building under construction collapsed today in Unguwar kaya in Zaria. Two eye witness say 4- 8 lifeless body were removed under the rubble. Two people were rescued. A number of people are still unaccounted for.

From my investigation on site Y10 and 8 rebars were used for the slab instead of Y12. For the beam and Column Y12 were used instead of 16.
As a Builder I suggest the client and the owner should be hanged to death. It was a disaster waiting to happen.

Nairaland tday is full of bad news.
From a man who stabs himself multiple times to CNN correspondent who committed suicide to a man crushed by BRT bus etc......now a building collapse.

Thank God I am safe cus am no better than the dead.

My observation is:

1) Folks are not buying a large enough yard for the activities they envision

2) Forced to by the lack of space or try to impress inconsequential asshats by building duplexes (Nigerians think bungalows means that you are poor).

To erect a suspended slab that will carry load, you need professionals from soil to structure to building.

This will keep occurring until the government truly steps in.
