Don't all these schools have alumni? If it's to give to church, Nigerians would give their last penny. They should raise funds from alumni if the government is not responding.

If government cannot manage this...why not privatise it...give the whole damn thing to an individual who will take it n rebuild it and commercialise it at the same time. This is one reason why I hate free or cheap educational system because the government feels they owe u nothing. To think this is a science sch where future doctors engineers and pharmacists will be produced. And believe mi our educational rot in primary and secondary has more implications than the tertiary ones.

So surprise to see my alma mata this way.Its unfortunate that people that suppose 2 draw govt attention 2d school are looking the other way.I remember in my days, we had this principal that was always telling us 2 draw our big parent in govt attention towards renovating the school, dat if he had his way, de school will wear a new look, but that same man was appointed a Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of education for 4good years, yet he did nothing Currently de State Publicity Secretary of PDP is an alumnus of d school, yet under his watching eye, the school is decaying. As 4 Rozayx5, note dat d school is still run by govt n not d catholic mission.If u want 2c how a school returned 2 catholic mission looks like, go2 Holy Family College, Loreto Girls Juniorate n others...

I am Noble, I recently graduated from the said Science College.

After I have carefully gone through this post and that of Mr John Akpaideh, here's what I can make of the matter....

The quality of education in the school is still okay, the excellence culture of the school is still sustained.

The classrooms, feeding in refectory, water supply and some other issues are okay (but there's still room for improvement though), but many things are not okay in the school.

Paramount among these is the state of the dormitories (Cottages: as we call it there)
Note: this is an all-boarding school but the hostels are in a 'sorry' state.
From being congested to being in an unfriendly surrounding.

Sometimes while I was there, I couldn't imagine why SMASCO was in this state when we have continuously distinguished ourselves in various competitions in the state.

It came to a point that one of the former principal had to generate some funds to renovate the roof of the assembly hall.

The Chaplain, Rev. Fr Patrick Akpabio had to organize a launching to renovate the Chapel.

The truth is aside the 'new' class block (the SSS1 block; which was constructed before 2012) and some recent 'touchings', the college can't boast of much infrastructural development.

The college with it's prestige should boast of at least an 18 seater bus for effective admin. (I can remember vividly how I, some of my colleagues and a teacher was almost left stranded after a science quiz at Independence High School, thank God HOFACO came to our rescue...)
Now that's a subject for another day.

TRUTH REMAINS..
St. Mary's Senior Science College (SMASCO) SERIOUSLY NEED NEW DORMITORIES especially for the male students.

I believe in the State Government

I believe in Nigerian Students

This was my dream school far back '98 after I had sat &passed their entrance exams.

1 of the Best Science College around as at that time where Science-based Subjects were taught by teachers who knew the rudiments.

I hardly seen a graduate of that college struggles in Science based courses in the university, they always do well cos of the foundation the school had.

So sad to see SMASCO rot this way.

I on't know who's behind the moniker and I want to waste time misyarning with the person?
No way! Besides, it's something I promised myself I would never do. Engaging in meaningless talk with faceless people.

Again, I have unwritten understanding with friends offline that I will never fight dirty with them no matter the provocation. Thank God I have the mature ones. And I try to separate who we are offline from who we are online.
