Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has shed more light on the reason why he offered an up coming actress a role in his forthcoming movie.

If you recollect, a certain actress identified as Cynthia Agu, was in the news recently when she lamented that she had attended a lot of auditions where she was promised roles but never got them. The actress wondered why film-makers sometimes called for auditions when they would end up using only known faces in their movies.

Shortly after she made this post, IK Ogbonna reached out to her and offered her a role in his forthcoming movie.

However, some people felt he offered the role to attract cheap publicity. In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Ogbonna explained why he decided to help her.

He said:

“I modelled for a very long time before I started acting and I know the type of hustle that comes with auditions. I went for a lot of auditions and there were times that I wasn’t picked. I understood her point of view when she said that sometimes, it seems like you’d be offered the job, and then you don’t get the final call back.

I know that for her to have been picked initially means she has some sort of talent. I cannot help everybody but I try to assist as many people as I can. I saw her for the first time when she made that post. The reality of life is that if you don’t bring yourself out there, nobody would see you. I sent her a message on Instagram and she responded.

She is going to appear in my next movie and if any other job that I can recommend her for comes up, I would do that.”

Reacting to insinuations that he offered the actress a movie role to cash in on the publicity that trailed her post, Ogbonna said:

“I already have free publicity because of what I do. I usually act three movies in a month; sometimes four. I don’t see the need for publicity stunts. It wasn’t even as if I made a post about it; I just made a comment on her post.”

On how it feels being judged publicly for every action he takes, IK said:

“In life, you are judged by every single thing you do; whether good or bad. There are people who see the good in what you do and celebrate you. I don’t care what people say. I have a positive mindset and if you come to me with positivity, I would embrace you. If you come to me with negativity, I would pray for you to get positive. I am not seeking anyone’s validation.”

Speaking on his forthcoming movies, the actor and producer said:

“I would be producing two movies in October and November. One of them is titled Left or Right, while the other one is, The Thief in You. Cynthia Agu would feature in The Thief in You and she would be playing the role of a friend to my character’s wife, which would be acted by Nadia Buari.

At the end of the day, I can only give her a role and recommend her to producers but she has to project her talent herself. If she impresses me, she would also appear in my second movie.”

On how he intends to fund his movie production, the Excess Luggage actor said:

“I invest my money wisely; I don’t believe in spending stupidly. One of the things I invest in is movie production. This year, I have been very busy travelling; so, I have not had time to work on my personal project but I want to wrap up the year with my own works.”

All this long epistle just to try to sway us from knowing that she gave you head to get the role.

Who doesn't know Nollywood.

But that act of producers calling for auditions when their cast is already completed is so annoying. I guess they use it to let people know that they are starting another job o.

If you are in Enugu, you would know one producer called Onyeze. I have never anyone that man picked from audition. He just calls for auditions to make caricature of people.

It's one reason I stopped going for auditions.
