PapaBrowne:Some people just take it as a personal duty to oppose any and everything the government does simply because they dearly hate the people heading the government. Nigeria has excess gas which is being burnt off daily though gas flaring in the delta region because we do not have the means to either utilise or sell the gas. Any initiative or venture which can help Nigeria reduce/eliminate gas flaring and gain income from the wasted gas is a very welcomed development. Every initiative shouldnt be a platform for playing politics. |

This will be a great achievement for Nigeria, Morocco and West Africa as a whole. The project will guarantee thousands of jobs and easier access to energy for hundreds of millions of people. For this work, Buhari deserves accolade. |

Putting the horse before the cart. Deal with gas flaring first. That alone consumes massive fund. If the parties in the JVC agree to pay their own part to stop gas flaring, in thd absence of PIB that has been watered down, how do Nigeria pay. Clueless advisers misleading a clueless president. |

obailala:please, we are not flaring gas cos there is no means to sell them. We flare gas cos we refuse to review our gas emission laws and bring in technologies. Oil companies pay for any volume of gas flared but its very tiny compared to harm caused and the fund for re-injection. The oil companies are ever ready to play their part, with the way naija is broke now, stopping gas flaring is still far. plus, do you know how many such projects that have been started and left half way? This is a wrong move in the wrong direction. Talk to me about singning contracts to bring in technology that will eliminate gas flaring. |

obibolamusa:Huh?! Nigeria burns away billions of dollars yearly through flaring of useful natural gas but you actually think the reason is because of an inability to review some petty laws or lack of technology?... Wow!.. That's a very erroneous assertion! Are you aware that natural gas is far far cheaper than diesel to run power generating plants?... There are thousands of industries scattered around Nigeria running on diesel and which could have their production costs cut down by over 50% if they had access to that gas being burnt away in the delta region. But it is one thing to have excess gas in the oil production fields and it is another thing to get that gas to the doorsteps of consumers who need it. If I may even ask, what exactly is the "technology" you talk about which is lacking?.. Technology to make the associated gas disappear without having to be flared? FYI, the simple reason Nigeria still flares gas is because we do not have the necessary infrastructure to utilize the gas locally or to sell the gas in the international market. By infrastructure I mean, the necessary gas distribution pipeline network to get the gas from the production fields to the door steps of industrial and domestic consumers, or trans-national export pipelines to deliver the gas to international consumers. Good thing we currently have the NLNG plant which liquefies and sells a microscopic fraction of Nigeria's gas, but in order to end flaring, Nigeria would need over 10 of NLNGs, in addition to trans-national pipelines and local distribution pipelines to get gas to industries. For all these to be fulfilled, it would cost several tens of billions of dollars; the dearth of these funds, coupled with the typical Nigerian factor (corruption and bad leadership) is the reason Nigeria still languishes with flaring. Once again I would state it clearly that any initiative such as this which can enable Nigeria make money out of the enormous gas resources it burns away daily is a very welcomed idea. I'm not aware of the current progress of the west African gas pipeline, but if Nigeria through any kind of help whatsoever can get a gas pipeline to Morocco, then that automatically connects us to the European (gas thirsty) market. So I struggle to see how anyone can think this is a bad development, except such a person is only capable of viewing things from the angle of politics. |

GoodMuyis:There isn't any need for any reduction in gas prices, gas already is far far cheaper than diesel for power generating plants even in homes and industries. What we need is the transmission and distribution infrastructure (pipelines) to get the gas to gas thirsty industrial and domestic consumers all around the country and internationally. |

Chuksaluta:Point of correction, this also has everything to do with gas flaring. Nigeria flares gas because it does not have the necessary infrastructure in place to use or sell the gas. |

obibolamusa:All fluff without substance. Before spatting off what we are doing or not doing to arrest flaring, shouldn't you at least state the past and current situation in facts and figures per what are flaring or not flaring and while you are at it, what gas flaring projects were started and not completed. Saying constructing pipelines to future markets is a step in the wrong direction sounds very shortsighted and irresponsible, I don't even see the connection. |

We are flaring our gas and for prudent and responsible reasons, the government is stepping in to sell our gas to our west and north African neighbors and ipobs are still mad that we are flaring gas as if that has anything to do with laying pipelines to get our product to countless markets from west Africa to Europe. The typical ipob will say the government is not doing what they are actually already doing just because they are ignorant and not current about issues going on in their own country. We are actually flaring less gas today than before and we should end flaring in less than 2 years based on current treads, government policies and programs. They've also completed hundreds of miles of pipelines to link all our gas fired power plants. This is obviously a concerted effort to fully utilize and monetize our resources at home and abroad. We should not make or embark on any plans to take care of the same problem you keep crying over or until we do this and that sounds very silly, it's like saying we must not make fufu until we finish making soup when in fact you can do both at the same time. ipob logic is always upside down logic |

Edu3Again:Resources that is being burnt away on a daily basis and of which the burning inflicts monumental environmental damage?... Now moves are being made to sell and make money out of this resource instead of burning it and damaging the environment, but some people still have problems with this. Of course from the onset of this thread, it was clear that a toxic mixture of politics and ignorance was responsible for the pointless responses so far on the thread. |
