The 2018 and the 21st FIFA World Cup is finally here.

There are 32 countries taking part but only one will be crowned world champions.

World Cup holders Germany, five-time winners Brazil, Euro 2016 winners Portugal, 2014 runners-up Argentina, Belgium, Poland, 1998 winners France and host Russia are all the 8 seeded teams.

Brazil, Germany,star-studded Spain, France, Argentina and Belgium are favourites and potential winners this year.

A South American team has never won the World Cup in Europe since 1958, while Germany are aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back World Cups since 1962.

Brazil have appeared at every single World Cup but they have not won the tournament since 2002.

Aside from the aforementioned favorites, the underdog countries like Nigeria can also spring surprises. The case of world cup debutant,senegal beating france, the reigning champions in 2002 comes to mind. They were finally eliminated in the quarter finals.

its obvious Brasil is the favourite to win this WC, but my money is on FRANCE (although it will be a tough road to the final).
to win, France will have to play the 2nd of the group D, which i suspect will be Nigeria....kai (the heartbreak of Brasilia 2014 once again)! then they will face Portugal or Spain, then their toughest match would be facing Brasil in the semis..... if they do indeed beat Brasil, they might as well hand over the trophy right then.

oh well, let me go and dust off my France jersey and celebrate with my Nigerian brothers like in Brasil...
