See how extremely corrupt nigeria is and are stupid people still want nigeria. With 8 billion us dollar you can build 2 of the world's biggest hydro power dam Nigeria's largest steel plant will finally start production, four decades after it was built. The Ajaokuta mill has cost the country more than $8bn, but has never produced any steel. It is hoped that getting the facility off the ground will save Nigeria billions of dollars in steel imports. Built on a 24,000 hectares (59,000 acres) site in 1979 with the coke oven and byproducts plant larger than all the refineries in Nigeria combined is reported to finally start production, four decades after. 3 Likes |

sufferNsmiling: Being Dangoteland,I must ask where the power supply come from? Furnaces are huge energy consumers! An electric arc furnace (EAF) is a furnace that heats charged material by means of an electric arc. Industrial arc furnaces range in size from small units of approximately one ton capacity (used in foundries for producing cast iron products) up to about 400 ton units used for secondary steelmaking.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_arc_furnace Imagine what Ajaokuta would require. Total theoratical energy required to melt the scrap and to superheat it to the typical tap temperatures requires around 350 – 370 kWh/t-steel. This energy can be provided by the electric arc, from fossil fuel injection or oxidation of the scrap feedstock. In practice, the energy use is highly dependent on product mix, local material and energy costs and is unique to the specific furnace operation. Factors such as raw material composition, power input rates and operating practices – such as post-combustion, scrap preheating – can greatly influence the balance. Actual electricity use in EAFs are reported to range between 300 – 550 kWh/t, and in 1999 reached an average level of 425 kWh/t.http://ietd.iipnetwork.org/content/electric-arc-furnace Haiyyya! This is a bridge too far! A quick rough estimate using those figures and Ajaokuta's full yearly production of 1.3 mn tonnes shows even with a very modest 40% production it would take maybe even half of your entire patchy national energy output!? First pic is a 1000T electric arc furnace.

We gave russia 8 billion us dollar for steel mill which does not work. Now as senators running to russia begging them to reopen the steel mill and invest in it so we can give them three times that amount maybe 20 billion us dollar this time federal republic of stupid fools. |

kikuyu1: Estimates are at 5 million to 10 million tonnes per year(yes, some sources say 1 million) ... If you watch the aljazeera video, it says 10 million metric tonnes per year... But the power supply issue you mentioned were taken into consideration when the plant was built... as well as rail.. and the iron ore to be used.. I also believe Ajakouta doesn't have an electric arc furnace... It has a blast furnace that utilizes coking coal to power it ... do your research well Did you watch the aljazeera video?? |

GSMA, an association that represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, has today [20/03/2018] released it’s annual Tech Landscape report for 2018. According to the report, there are now 442 active tech hubs in Africa. This represents a 41% jump from last year’s estimate of 314 tech hubs. South Africa maintained the lead with 59 hubs up from 54 indicated in last year’s report. However, Nigeria is fast closing the gap. The number of tech hubs in Nigeria jumped from 23 to 55 by close of 2016 and 2017 respectively. To sum up the top 5, Egypt, Kenya and Morocco each clocked 33, 30 and 25 tech hubs respectively. According to GSMA, a tech hub is a “physical spaces designed to foster and support tech start-ups”. They adopted this definition in 2016 when they first carried out research on this topic. The definition covers incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, fab labs, maker spaces, hackerspaces, and other innovation centres. 2 Likes |

my nig's you need more power than the entire west africa produces to run steel mills economically without starving other power consumers and industries, something close to southafrica's power output ,even they would be struggling. 1 Like |

Also important to note is that Lagos has now taken over as the leading ecosystem city in Africa with 31 active tech hubs. “Lagos has now taken over as the African city with the highest number of tech hubs (31) and potentially the leading innovation hub on the continent, especially after MEST, Google and Facebook announced the opening of local tech hubs between 2017 and 2018,” says Maxime. However, some cities are also evolving at a fast rate. For example, Accra has now broken into the top five ecosystem cities in Africa with over 16 tech hubs. “Over the past two years, secondary ecosystem cities have also caught some light, denoting the growth of the national tech scenes outside of the main economic hub,” Maxime wrote. Adding that, “Cities like Johannesburg, Kumasi, and Alexandria in Africa, and Hanoi, Penang, Ahmedabad, Bandung in Asia Pacific, are now established ecosystem cities in their respective markets.” Source...digestAfrica.Com 2 Likes |

From this report, Lagos alone has more tech hubs than all of Kenya, with 31 techhubs' to Kenya's 30. 1 Like |
