Who even gives driver's license to all those underaged truck drivers I see on Nigerian roads? The mentality of an average Nigerian is not something to discuss today and this is why a lot of us find it hard to assimilate in foreign countries when we migrate.

Christians have claimed Ibadan expressway as their entitlement hereby causing traffic jams with irresponsible church programs that would have been banned in Saudi Arabia or other sane countries. Lagos burst at it's seams a long time ago. Ali Baba addressed a lot of issues in that short piece. Most importantly, why is Lagos the only active deep sea port in Nigeria? The advantage is Lagos makes money from every business that imports through there. This is practically all the businesses in Nigeria. Why? We have options for at least four ports across Nigeria's shores that can take the pressure off Lagos. What do they do? They start building another one in Epe. Worsening a congested Lagos. Every business has to have a presence in Lagos. The disadvantage is congestion. This is one of the hazards of that congestion.

This has nothing to do with greed or human beings. It is the way the country chose to function. The country is due for a comprehensive review on our mode of operations. This is what is wrongly and politically referred to as restructuring. It must happen one day or there will be more avoidable disasters like this. The tanker whose brake failed today and caused mass carnage fell very close to where the FRSC usually stand to check vehicles. However, they won't check tankers because of the hefty bribes they receive from trucking companies.

Ambode shamelessly passes beside tankers parked on Ikorodu Road and bridges but turns a blind eye because of the ticket and charges they make from truck drivers.

For a start, Lastma, VIO, FRSC and LASG should be sued by those who lost loved ones in this carnage. The tanker didn't fly from Apapa to fail brake at Otedola bridge. Let the government agency which certified it fit and roadworthy come out and explain. Let Lastma explain why they didn't stop a moving bomb from plying our roads at the peak of traffic.

2 things would end this madness:
When a senior political office holder loses his life in a tanker fire, container fall or his family is wiped out in a tanker or container accident.
When we as citizens sue the government for billions of Naira and they're embarrassed into doing something sensible.

Don't say it's not possible. Falana fell into a manhole in Abuja and threatened to sue the FCDA. They begged him profusely to settle out of court.

Bro, the only problem is that we pray and do nothing! We think prayer will do the magic and make manna to fall from heaven. Faith without work will avail us nothing. The solutions to our problems is always within our reach. That is why sad event like this will keep happening if we only pray to wish it away and do nothing to prevent re-occurrence.
