BeeBeeOoh:This is very disgusting reporting. How does the private transaction between a local zone of a Trade Union and an oil company involve the remaining 190 million Nigerians? The Reporter is obviously trying to create panic where none exists. Its a shame really and we should call out these idiots who deliberately mislead Nigerians for personal motives. |

Yet another achievement. From change to chains and now to progress And the progress continues but sadly in anti-clockwise direction. |

Rainmaker69:My thoughts exactly. Besides, what constitutes unlawful disengagement? Can a private company be thought how to run its affairs? |

Horlaboy51:To be frank we also are part of the problem the guys up there came from down here. They’ve sacked probably some incompetent hands and the nation is going to suffer for it, makes no sense. Rather than strike why don’t they use the judicial system? It’s really sad oh |

Rainmaker69:My dear, 90 percent of the oil industry is privately owned from truck tankers and choppers to drilling rigs and all the folks who run them so exactly what are you saying. Is unionism only for government folks alone... Bankers have their union, taxi drivers have theirs and construction workers too and any investor going into the oil industry knows that the moment you begin to become a significant player, you emerge on the radar of NUPENG and they will demand you permit your workers join or else.... |

dafeyankee:Do you people read at all? Did you understand why they are striking in the first place? What is wrong with Nigerians? Seems people don't read again and have been programmed like zombie to just type whatever even if it makes no sense nor connected to what is being discussed? Companies have the right to sack and hire but must be done the proper way. |

iyatrustee:NUPENG remains the most powerful union in Nigeria for good and sometimes bad. But the truth is that the oil industry remains a largely secretive cult like enterprise with an unaccountable, corrupt and unstable government on one side and neo-imperialist, western overlords on the other side, each fighting selfishly for their share and supremacy and not minding one bit how the working parts of the engine fare. Surely there has to be a third force, a third leg to make the stool viable. |

Reference:My dear, you obviously don't understand my post. My point is that the press release is in bad faith because the dispute is of a private nature involving a branch of NUPENG- a branch, not the national body. How does that translate to something that should concern Nigerians? The National Industrial Court is there to ventilate employment disputes so what is so special in what their issue that they are involving Nigerians? Trade Unions are often antithetical to a growing capitalist economy. This is because they tend to act in the interest of a small section of an industry to the detriment of the entire industry. I'm not here to debate the merit or demerit of trade unions. I don't want fuel scarcity. These idiots are trying to start panic buying which will lead to scarcity. I hope you are not one of them. As for me, I'm not a fan. |
