The movie is a satire and although it was funny, I stopped laughing after some time when I realised they were portraying true events
That's the punchline. It's a clever use of satire in other to mock the power struggles following the demise of USSR. It's the use of humor, irony, ridicule and exaggeration to expose and criticize the soviet's stupidity and vices, esp in the context of contemporary politics. The creator, Armando Iannucci is one of the world best satire writers. His works are well known. Basically, through them, he pokes delirious fun at political establishment of various governments.

Some of his works I can remember off head are thus:
TELEVISION
- The Thick of It
- Veep
- Lab's Rats
- Time Trumpets

MOVIES
- In the Loop
- Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa
- The Death of Stalin
- Tube Tales.

You don't mean it! I've always found languages very fascinating.
It was at first, but when I had to learn the syntax and phonetics and all the extra baggage that comes with them like sociolinguistics, dialectology, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, comparative linguistics, and structural linguistics... running for the hills was the more enticing option, believe me.

My favourite scene in the movie is when the Field Marshall takes off his jacket at the funeral. I watched that part like four times because it was so hilarious. I wonder how that actor played that scene with a straight face cheesy

I get where you're coming from though. After all the head paining training, you will still end up teaching French in a private school. The Nigerian situation

I forgot to add the emboldened in my earlier posts. Some of these accents are also hard to understand if someone that doesn't have a deep knowledge of them or if one didn't grow up in the UK. I once watched a BBC documentary and most of the interviewees had Scouce accents and I was really struggling to grab what they're saying. They're speaking English but yet it sounded so strange to me.
Some of these accents are also hard to understand if someone that doesn't have a deep knowledge of them or if one didn't grow up in the UK.huhhuhhuh?

So why did you all countered me in the first place?

I don't even know, someone that lives or had lived in UK will be more able to say the Queen's accent. All I know is that I understand her when she speaks, so whatever her accent may be, it's very easy to understand. There are some English accents that you'll struggle to comprehend.
This is ridiculous, why countered me in the first place?

Go ahead and 'fish out' what you want to fish out. The fact is you are obsessed with lesbians and vaginas, as evidenced by some of the more disturbing comments you have made here.

So talking about lesbians and vagina means i am obsessed with it? You don't know me and you are already stereotyping me through my comments which were written in the ruckus of discussion.

Gone Girl- There are just no words... shocked shocked

By losing ourselves to make a marriage work, are we in a way emasculating ourselves? Poignant question.

8.5 9/10

Rampage- It's interesting, but not extra-ordinary. The CGI is also average. I don't know the back story of the 'Okoye' name used by Rock's character but it tickled me to no end.

7/10.
sad

It's actually a very lucrative course if you're prepare to go the extra mile, but it requires dedication and extreme patience. My big Sis works as a field translator for the Chinese consulate in Nigeria. She's fluent in 6 foreign languages btw. Apparently, the pay is very good.

6 languages! She's good.

However, majority of people in that field find themselves teaching languages in secondary schools. I know this for a fact. The next best thing is to kuku stick with the marketable courses in Nigeria

I get you. It's not the best course to study in a place like Nigeria where they place premium on who your Godfather is than on what you have in your head. Gosh, i am so tired of my beloved shithole. Na to bail out remain angry

Are you sure amnesia due to old age hasn't been dealing with you? Have you forgotten your initial stance of non-natives or non-Russians not being able to spot a typical Russian accent which formed the premise of our debate?

That I don't know the various name of the accents doesn't mean I wouldn't be able to tell that it's an England accent. Not understanding what a Scouser (Liverpudian and Evertonian indigene)is saying due to their tongue doesn't mean I don't know it's an English/Scouse accent. I'm a Nigerian who has never left the shores of this country, but when an Indian speaks English, I can detect it even in an inebriated state. I don't understand a single Yoruba or Hausa language, so it automatically means if someone speaks it I wouldn't be able to know the languages? huh

Studied Language and Linguistics for a while at the Uni. I dropped it eventually because it's a lot of work, it's one of the hardest courses you'll ever do.
I had friends that studied Linguistics and they all confirmed it's a very difficult topics.
