Memories....
I am a graduate of A. B. U Zaria and i served at College of Medical Sciences in the University of Calabar. To be honest, it's a beautiful school but backward. Way backward... ICT, STAFF ACCOMMODATION (OFFICES), QUALITY OF RESEARCH, LABORATORIES, LECTURE THEATERS, STUDENT WELFARE, FACULTIES you name it, are just in a sorry state. You can imagine a Computer Science lecturer (with a PHD) struggling with his c++ programming lecture. They still do registration manually and EVERYTHING in the school is monetized. My friends and I often called it UNICASH. LOL

Nepotism, politics and did I forget cultism

The school get fine girls sha. U can't take that away from UNICAL.

I'm not hyping my being an ABUSITE or trying to demean Bottom line is, having started in 1975 this school ought to be better than what it is today.

My humble opinion though.

God bless MALABITES and MALABRESSES

what year was this?

I attended one, too. But honestly, I'd NEVER allow any of my children to attend any public university in Nigeria. I graduated from a public university before heading to South Korea. While in SK, I realized just how abysmally low the standard of education in Nigeria had fallen. Back in the good old days in Nigeria, our graduates were at par with their contemporaries in the United kingdom and even in America; a lot of international students from neighbouring countries studied in Nigeria; English and Mathematics teachers from Ghana made Nigeria their land of green pastures. But all that is gone because currently our universities are grossly underfunded which has led to little or no innovations in our universities. If you've been outside of Nigeria you'd understand what I'm trying to say.

You are not inferior but many of our public universities are worst off. Their facilities are inadequate, lecturer student relationship are poor, etc

After this period, cultism was tackled in the school. It became low key

Lolz, Unical that was a beehive of cult activities even to 2002. Currently the entire institution is a den for brutal fraternities

The school looks really beautiful, thanks to photo editing...
Just to clarify you, this phrase, "there is only two universities in Nigeria" is only applicable to UNN, not just because its bearing the nation's name; Nigeria, but because of the quality of graduates it keeps churning out.
Correction..but because of the quality of students it churned out..
That was then.
Nowadays UNN is just like your average University and sliding down fast on NUC rankings.
The days of respect for UNN certificate ,back when my Mom graduated from pharmacy there is now virtually in the rearview.
