The Road Blocks on the SE Roads are a menace from time immemorial. Seems there is a covet effort to keep the people there impoverished, constantly intimidated, coerced and extorted. Nigeria has not been fare to the Igbos, I am not Igbo, but justice demands that I support the marginalized people. Last time I moved across those states, I had to keep giving monies to soldiers and policemen, and at one check-point I had to give them a bottle of Henessy. It is terrible, if we want a united country, then we should treat all Nigerians as equal partners. Nigeria can not survive without the Igbos. Though I'm against Buhari and Co, I will not completely support this. Instead I will suggest we ask the road blockers to do the right thing. Imagine I was in a bus bus not knowing that someone in the bus had a short gun until we were stopped and searched by the road road blockers. It happened for real. Quality20:You just have to take a trip to the SE roads though. The soldiers dress with their war regalia, those war hats/cap that has some crazy pieces of cloths all over. I see no reason for such levels of security on the roads. So scary, looks like a country at war over there. 4 Likes |

It's now I believe what most of my friends say about this forum's members being children who don't go out and only say rubbish regarding everyday happenings in the country. The reason for these roadblocks is money. The East it seems, has no law. Police men are king there. They make God knows how much from motorists. I visited the east sometime back and Enugu alone had more check points than I had seen in four Nigerian states combined. I spent 30,000 NGN in two days to pacify police men due to minor offences: my tinted windows, license plate cover, expired fire extinguisher, expired insurance papers etc. After leaving the region I said "Thank God" and will only go there when the check points disappear. For those saying the stop points exist because of intimidation, it is a lie. If they were made to intimidate they will exist deep in the villages where their presence is visible to the locals. Yet their only locations are on the expresses. There are no two ways about it, money is their only motivation. 4 Likes 1 Share |

five minutes drive from awka to Onitsha u will see be stopped on road block and be seeing another two on same lane and opposite lane for about two minutes drive....u will meet navy....another seven minutes drive u will see another 3 road blocks....u will meet about seven road blocks on a 30minutes drive....explain what it means....a minor will be traveling with his parents and be seeing military men with guns on the road and be feeling scared.....Nigeria is a zoo 4 Likes 2 Shares |

the road blocks are preferable to leaving the roads bare for kidnappers and armed robbers. The policemen do abuse their office but they are still under authority and easily traceable. |
