Let me put it in simple terms that you will understand.
Http is a not a secured connection while Https is secured. "Secured" here simply means that if visitors to website are required to type in sensitive information on some parts of your website like passwords, credit card / ATM card details etc, it's adviced you use https cuz with that, your visitors' data are secured and protected against hackers unlike when you use just http. . If you are browsing with your laptop using latest version of some browsers like chrome, you will notice that when you visit websites with just http and try to login with your username and password for example, the moment you enter the password input section, you will see a pop up by the side with the message "not secure "... If your link was - http:// or http://www. Or https://www. You should redirect to point to the single https:// or Google will see them as duplicate links.

To redirect use simple .haccess redirect code (if you are running on apache) or use nginx redirect code (if you are running on nginx web server).
