Yes, the older women smoke infront of their husbands lol. But it's more like a group or gender thing. By that I mean, the women usually sit with other women to smoke. Same with men. I've never seen men & women smoking together (or even doing anything together in public for that matter. All interactions end in the bedroom). It's a respect thing.

I don't identify as a Coloured because I wasn't raised in that culture. At my house we spoke Xhosa & followed a Xhosa way of life. But my 1st & 2nd year of high school, I attended a Coloured high school, because my mother wanted me to. I guess she didn't want me to lose touch with her side of the equation. It's not something I can relate to, TBH. I'm fine being just Xhosa because that's all I know & can relate to. Yes, I'm from the EC.

LMFAO @ the smoking thing. Well, I had to look it up because I had no idea when it started or why. People just puffed away on their pipes. I know ALL the people in the past smoked pipes & the older generation still do to this day. Now, more or less, the pipes are used only as an accessory when people are dressed in traditional clothes, since many people don't smoke anymore for health reasons. Apparently people in the past smoked as a form of meditation & I guess the habit was passed on from one generation to the next, because we truly do smoke a lot. I don't drink though. The former neighbour I was talking about looked biracial and I didn't believe that she was full black until her mother and father visited her place , apparently there was one great grandfather who was white but it skipped generations and caught her and her brother because her other sister doesn't have those features even though they resemble one another in some ways .
