Her consent is not always needed for an operation - if she is incapacitated, unconscious or incapable of making logical decisions. A relative would often be asked to provide the consent needed, in such cases.

Thw write-up shows that she was conscious enough to refuse to be operated on and if the husband or her next of kin had given a consent, this story won't be here.

Isn't that what everyone is saying? What is your beef? She refused to give consent for the operation. But in another country, the operation may have taken place, because even though she was conscious, she was not capable of making a logical decision. So consent would have been sought from other quarters (e.g. medical insurance company etc).

The interesting thing about the Hebrew women story is that there were no 'Hebrew women'. Pharaoh asked the midwives why they are not killing the boys as instructed, the women lied that the Israelites women were strong and before they came to help, the Hebrew women had already given birth. This was not true because the midwives actually helped to deliver the babies but refused to kill the boys and so God blessed them. The Hebrew women were actually not different from the Egyptian women with respects to giving birth.
