Hello All, please I want to know how long the immigration office responded with a form to fill for the birth of your child? I mean notification that there's an addition to the number of family? We no notified them first week of this month. No response from them yet? Should we be worried?

1) What is your budget, type of accomodation you want and when do you plan to land? I can do the search for you on Kijiji and organize for you to view when you land.

3) This is sort of true and not true (It takes me about two hours by bus to get to work, but if I drive, its 28 mins). It also depends on your direction of work. If you work down town, you would most likely meet traffic is you drive and parking can be an issue sometimes.

4) I have tried to organize meet ups here but non responded.

So helpful of you. Can i pm you. I dont even know my bearing now

Hey have any of you caught on camera a view of an Aurora borealis in Alberta? that would be a very lovely share.

I look forward to witnessing an Aurora borealis, inshort its like a goal for me.. I learnt y'all have a dark sky festival that typically holds in October, I should attend one of those in future and perhaps join an aurora chasing group if time permits me.

Your question sounds kinda vague, are you pre PPR or post, or landed? If former then your question will be better answered on sister thread, many people have shared their addition story there including myself. Don't know what to say cuz don't know what stage of the process you are in, regardless 2 weeks is too long not to have gotten a response. I got a response less than 48 hours, it was urgent. What medium did you use to communicate your addition? I used email (good) and web form (no result), from my experience.

Thanks so much ni

Thanks niobe77 for your response. We are pre PPR. We used web form. Please what email address was it sent to?
Ours is very urgent too because she was born in June.
I'd also go to the web link immediately. God bless you!

Thanks for all the informative posts.

I will be landing as a PR in the second week of September in Toronto but i'm a bit apprehensive about the settlement process. My previous visits to Toronto and Montreal in the past have been about visiting restaurants, tourists attractions and malls but i realise emigrating is some next level sturvs.

Can anyone please refer me to an active community (preferably nigerian) that can make the settlement easier i.e in terms of every day life, social and professional networking and so on. My intentions is to get temporary Airbnb accommodation till i get a more permanent living arrangement but i don't want to be holed up somewhere as if i'm on vacation when i can be out and about.

Hi, you can follow up with a general CSE - Case Specific Enquiry using this link, https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/case-cas-eng.aspx?mission=london&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Give details of what you have done so far with dates and ask for an update.

You can also send an email to your VO, requesting to know the status of your file. If it's Accra, use this email; accra.immigration@international.gc.ca

Same scenario here. So I called their office yesterday to find out what's up. The lady who spoke with me said they are currently treating profiles of those who sent in their photos in the first week of May - that they are dealing on a weekly "batch" basis. That sort of made sense because I sent my photos based on their request in the 3rd week of May. July looks highly probable, I guess.

Hello Ambidextrause,
Have u gotten your PR card yet? I have seen approved on my CIC portal for over 2 weeks now but yet to get the PR card in my mail. Should I be worried?

Same issue with PR card. Since March. Is there something that can be done from my part?

Please for the PR card, do we use the same picture we submitted during ppr or its another format? Thinking of taking enough pictures before setting out of Naija

Thanks maternal i had gone to the beginning of the thread again to start penning names of ottawa people.
Okay i booked airbnb already for 2 weeks but i need to get accommodation before the end of the period(preferably a house because i have 3 super active kids), but i did not get any response to any house i showed interest in on Kijiji

1 How else can i go about this accommodation (just to book viewing sef)

2 Please can we start ottawa whatsapp group please (instant response to critical question can be pof saving)

3 I keep hearing no area is too far in ottawa , please how is living in the sub hurb and finding job within.

4 How do we do people socialize (side story : i contacted RCCG overcomers chapel on instagram, lets just say maybe they will respond when i get there)

1. I'm surprised you're having a hard time getting a place let alone bookings. Are you calling with a naija number ? Are they asking for credit check ?

2. Put down your number, and whoever wants to add you to whatsapp can. I don't know who else wants to start a Ottawa group.

3. No place is too far if you have a car. 30-45 min drive anywhere really, and that's the worse case. Rush hour or a car accident can add an extra 10 min to commute. These are worse case times too. Living in the suburbs is fine, but most jobs (government jobs) are downtown, west-end or across the river to Quebec. Unless you're either a teacher, police, fireman, etc most jobs are concentrated downtown, across the river, or far west-end.

4.Ottawa is not a huge city. You'll meet people, especially a lot of Nigerians. There's a Nigerian association as well.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

WHATSAPP MESSAGES, VIDEOS AND PICTURES.

I am a lawyer licensed to practice law in Canada and I handle a lot of immigration cases.

I came across a case this last Sunday (July 1, 2018 - Canada Day), which I thought is necessary to be shared amongst closed ones without disclosing confidential information.

This client travelled from Africa into Canada and was interviewed at the point of entry into Canada. During the course of the interview, he was asked to hand over his phone to the Canada Border Services Agency officer. Upon reviewing the videos stored on his phone. The officer saw a video of a man raping a child and detained him for possessing child pornography.

He was determined to be ineligible to enter into Canada on grounds of criminality and was refused entry into Canada as he was determined to be a risk to public safety. He has now been charged to Court for being in possession of child pornography.

My client alleges that it was a widely spread WhatsApp video in Africa (I am sure some of you would have seen the same video) and that it automatically downloaded into his phone without his knowledge. He will definitely have his day in Court to prove his innocence, but we do not have to wait to allow such things happen.

What’s the moral of this story? This is the era of social media and the distribution of all sort of messages/videos/pictures. Check your phone on a daily basis and ensure that you delete all unsolicited pictures, messages and videos. Block anyone who has a penchant for distributing unwarranted pictures, messages and videos - you may not only be saving yourself from unforeseen embarrassment and/or criminal charges, you don’t want your kids to stumble into such messages, videos and pictures.

Finally, a whole lot is indulged in Africa (not meaning to be demeaning). It is a different ball game out of Africa. So for EVERYONE travelling, do a thorough search of the content of your phone before you embark on each trip - just to be sure you are CLEAN. What happened to my client could have happened to anyone, just because he didn’t pay any attention to the videos/messages he received on WhatsApp.

This is not a joke, it is a true story.

This is for those travelling in and out of Canada.

Just late last year, a friend of my cousin in the US was arrested after distributing child porn after he mistakenly forwarded one of such video to her American co-worker. The America co-worker called the cops on him. He was granted bail but tried fleeing to Canada via Quebec and a criminal check brought up his crime in the states. He was detained at the border till US officials arrived to re-arrest him
