ACCA is needed so u don't just be a local champion. In dis dispensatn one needs 2 think globally.

It's a pity that this post is misleading. Both ICAN and ACCA has its own uniqueness and peculiarity. For those thinking of which one to pursue, it all depends on your choice, but note that there are some slight difference. E.g Nigerian Tax system is different from other countries, so taxation in ICAN and ACCA differs and if you're to practice in Nigeria, you must be versed in the Nigerian Tax system.

For further information, you can google it and have better knowledge than reading an unfounded criticism.

Cfa is good. But it does not serve the same purpose as Ican and acca.

With the proliferation of professional bodies under the branches of accounting, is the umbrella professional body not loosing it's relevance.

We have professional body on Taxation, management accounting and now the recent controversial forensic and audit body.

For your info The Big 4 in Nigeria rate ICAN higher!

That's a big fat lie.

90% of people who enrol newly for accounting professionals at the big 4 chose acca .

Although the firms only pay the ican equivalent of the exams.... It's just for convenience and the cost.

The only people in big4 doing ican have already started b4 joining

What about cost? For the unemployed and under employed graduates managing their lives.

Before I continue, I will like to say here that comparing ACCA to ICAN is like comparing Ronaldo De Lima to Emile Heskey. Ignorance is really not bliss!

In June 2016 ACCA had 188 000 members and 480 000 students from 178 countries. There is little wonder as to why the body is growing in leaps and bounds globally. ACCA is not recognised in only a few countries.

2. EXAM FLEXIBILITY

ACCA exams are highly flexible. They are both computer and paper based. Furthermore,In Nigeria the first three exams are offered in an on-demand computer based format. This incredibly increases your pass rate since you are working at your own speed, time and convenience.

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATES

On your road to becoming an ACCA member you have a chance of grabbing a number of certificates and qualifications before being awarded a B.sc and/ M.sc(Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, UK. Qualifications includes : Awards of excellence, Diploma in Accounting and business, Advanced Diploma in accounting and business.
Furthermore, every year ACCA offers scholarships to 5 students who attain a certain performance.

4. EASY TO PASS

It is below average students who prepare badly that always complain about ACCA being difficult. I don't know if it's because of our poor educational system or those who enrol for a ACCA in Nigeria are just below average.
With a study material and a revision in 3-4 months you get awarded an accounting diploma which qualifies you as a junior accountant after passing just three on demand computer based exam exams. Flexibility!

5. STUDY MATERIALS

ACCA study materials are the easiest to get for any professional accounting exam online - with just a phone call you can get any hard copy study text/ kits of your choice at your disposal. It took me two days to order and receive F6 FA2016.
Let me also add that there are a lot of ACCA free learning resources/ classes online. For example Opentuition, LSBF and YouTube offer free lectures videos and class notes tailored according to ACCA syllables from F1-P6.


Please my fellow ACCA students don't be moved. You are on the right path. Hardwork and a determined heart will get us there. You don't need to waste money paying for ACCA lessons when there are a lot free lectures online, waiting for you to download them. Just get your study and exam kits and do a lot of practise. Anybody telling you ICAN is better than ACCA, doesn't know what he or she is saying. ACCA isn't that easy to pass if you do not study the exam format properly. All your questions are in applied format. You'd be given a real company situation and you'd need to solve the problems based on your knowledge of accounting. Moreover, if you want to pass properly, take the exams in bits so you can have enough time to read for each paper.

ICAN and ACCA both have their strengths. For me, ICAN is;

1. cheaper to write
2. Developed for Nigeria
3. Easily convertible to ACCA if interested
4. Recognised by top local professional courses such as CITN a
5. And many more

And only afonja passes it.

Well you have made few good points up there but to me, they both belong to the same mother IFAC and recently ICAN is working towards its courses getting to the same level as that of ACCA, that is to qualify for ICAN you write all papers in ACCA exam just about two papers left excluding tax and more so, ICAN is working for global recognition of it's members few countries has signed the Mou with ICAN and lastly, if you are ACCA holder, there are limitions to what you can do in Nigeria e.g you can't sign on FSs of your employer in Nigeria except you convert by writing few papers. I think we all need to learn to promote what we have including our country Nigeria so we get global recognition just like other professional bodies.

Bro what are the necessary requirements before one can start applying for the ACCA exams And are there ACCA study or registration centers in the South East?

You Mean With O'level result

You can start with O levels. You won't be given any exemption. The first 3 Papers Knowledge based F1-F3 awards you a diploma in accounting and business, The remaining 6 papers (F4-F9)also known as the skills level awards you an advanced diploma in accounting and business.

You get promoted to the next stage which is the professional level passes at its essential awards you a bsc in Accounting while the remaining 2 papers known as options qualifies you to a masters degree in applied accounting.

If you have Bsc or HND in some related or unrelated courses you will be given exemptions.

The pass mark is 50. If you fail, you have to rewrite to pass. There are 14 exams you have to pass. An average sitting for a year is 4.

Above all, the FG made a rule late last year that, any professional body that has its equivalent in the country shall hereby be void for employment purposes within the ambiet of the country, you need to go to ICAN centres and see the alarming rate at which ACCA candidate are opting in as special candidates for ICAN...
upon 5years of been a Chartered accountant (ICAN) you will be awarded a chartered accountant of england and wales (ICEAW) and as well as CICMA (charted instituite of cost management accountants) automatically...

Bottomline:
If your motive is to remain in this country (or probably base in the UK) as a professional accountant, my brother ICAN is the best bet

I have a question please... I studied biochemistry in school but I really want to enrol for ICAN.... Is it possible? How am I going to go about the registration and all? Nd finally is this ACCA more preferable than ICAN

You can't pay for ICAN you're opting for ACCA. You need prayers!
