Can't find the answer myself, it should be about showcasing your culture and all about you. It's like England moving saint George's Day to USA to celebrate or the Irish celebrating saint Patrick's day in south Africa. Igbo need to appreciate their lands and bring celebrations home, it's a way of bringing investment e.g tourism home.

It wasn't the Igbos who really made the festival per say, it's the African Americans with igbo ancestry in states like Washington, Virginia, and most New England states that created the festival to celebrate the culture there, they even had to make an igbo museum in Virginia and Washington... When it's time for the new yam festival, we invite them to come to their homeland, or their ancestral home.

You really miss the point... When it's time for celebration in igbo land, everyone keeps their differences, and can either make up, or stay low till the festival is done... And as for Igbos celebrating in the Americas, it isn't them that said they want a place to celebrate in Virginia... The igbo culture is know in diaspora, and it can't be farfetched when this westerners would want a taste of what is African, when they've seen a lot of English culture... They call the Igbos to their country and make their venue for them to celebrate with the American people. And another point is this, if you say it isn't normal to take an igbo celebration to another country , what out our music stars why do they do a continental musical tour in other countries, why don't they stay in Nigeria and be famous, who calls them up for tours?... And what about the pain festival help in some parts of Brazil, why do Yorubas go to the South America to teach them how to do the culture... Consider this, culture is relative.
