Ex-Military General, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has reacted to the recent gale of defections that hit the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking to Crest newspaper in his hilltop mansion in Minna, IBB opined that the defection of 14 senators from the APC to the PDP showed 'Political Dexterity' and was 'good for democracy'.

"I call it political dexterity because there are no better words to describe it. This is political dexterity and I don’t think anybody should have any problems with that. I have nothing against it. I think it is good for democracy. If it is good for democracy, then, it is good for Nigeria.

If people left the APC to form R-APC [Reformed All Progressives Congress], they must have a solid reason or reasons for doing that. If 12 senators got to a point where they felt their continued stay in APC was not working and decided to leave, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Similarly, if the other two senators felt that their stay in APC was no longer worth their while and decided to join the ADC [African Democratic Congress], they have not committed any crime.

I think the development is good for democracy. Democracy is about choices; it is about the freedom to choose. In the democratic system that we practice, you can always disagree if you feel what you see in the system does not agree with your expectation."

Defection from APC is the right thing to do. I keep wondering how a responsible person will remain in a party that has presided over the killings of Nigerians on a daily basis. .which democracy in Nigeria? where there are no clear cut difference in ideologies between political parties.

I learnt what democracy looked like when I watched CNN. republicans vs democrats. different ideologies like black and white. republicans are majorly conservatives while democrats are majorly liberals. each party stand for something. cross carpeting can't happen anyhow here since it would require an extreme change in ideology.

unlike Nigeria. can anyone point out an ideological difference between apc and pdp. they don't stand for anything that differentiate them from the other. that's why people cross carpet anyhow. it does not require any change of ideals. just go where the money is surer.

Those killings you talk about are the handwork of PDP .

They started it by being sponsors of Boko haram and have been known to wage bloody politics.

The herdsmen issue has their signature methods all over it and that is why they are fighting ranching.

They know ranching would ensure THE REAL HERDSMEN are kept in specific monitored locations and then expose the real killers under their pay for all to see because monitored herdsmen would not be able to leave their locations to perpetrate killings and if they cannot and killings are still going on then everyone would know its not herdsmen but mercenaries.
