President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State to bring 83-year-old Imam of Nghar village, Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abubakar, for “a hand shake and national honour.”

The President reportedly took the decision following reports that the imam saved about 300 persons on June 24 when suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded about 15 communities in Barkin Ladi LGA, killing scores.

The victims were said to be running for safety from a neighbouring village in the Barkin Ladi LGA when the imam allegedly hid them in his house and mosque.

“I hid the women in my personal house and after that, I took the men into the mosque and hid them there,” Imam Abubakar had stated.

However, the assailants reportedly caught up with the imam, and ordered him to release to them those he had hidden.

But the cleric reportedly refused, and the attackers left without further ado.

Governor Lalong revealed the President’s plan for Imam Abubakar in Jos on Monday during the opening ceremony of a three-day peace and security conference with the theme, “The resurgence of violence in Plateau State: Towards a multi-stakeholder partnership for peace and security.”

It was organised by the Plateau State Peace Building Agency.

Lalong said, “The President has told me to bring to him Imam Abdullahi Abubakar for a handshake, which will be followed by a national honour.

“I was also preparing what to do for this man. Although he is already in his old age, God knows why he did it at that age — for us to study and also know how to maintain peace, not only in Plateau State but also in Nigeria in general.

“He did not only save the people of Barkin Ladi LGA, not only Plateau State, but I think the whole of this country because 300 lives is not a small number.

“So, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, only God will reward you for what you have done.

“We are waiting for that process of meeting the President for a handshake and national honour.

“Having a handshake with Mr. President at the age of 83, I think the man will be happy, even if he is going to his grave, that something has happened in his life.”

Lalong also expressed happiness that the gesture by Imam Abubakar happened during his tenure as governor of Plateau state.

Don't get me wrong, the Fulani people have committed crimes against humanity in platue state no body can disproved that. But the issue here is that why were their cows killed in the first place and in which location? If at all the Imam house is located in the areas where the cows were killed he definitely will not be spared by those Fulani's. That's their M.O

It was an act of piety.

We should learn not to expect material gains for doing the right thing.

The imam did not participated in killing their cow's, that was why he was not killed. Fulani's are emotionally attached to their cows, they don't care about your religion if you mess with their cows they will react irrespective of religion.

I have some few questions please:
1. How big is the Imam's house and the mosques (considering it is a village mosque which by the way should be very small) that it can accommodate 300 persons?

2. Was the mosque in the Imam's house? If no (which is most likely), how then did the imam teleport from his house to his mosque consequently to prevent the heardsmen from attacking either? what type of magic did he use?

3. Remember he is 83 years old, an average 83 years old should be weak and can hardly walk, where did he muster the strength to repel heardsmen attackers? If he used words to persuade them, from past experiences can words be used to persuade these attackers?

If any of your answers sound unreasonable then of cos we know Lalong is only lying as usual.

God bless you imam for this kind gesture,you are a rare treasure. the security men need to ask imam certain questions and learn one or two things from him

1.how do the herds men look like since the president claimed they are from Libya, that is do they look and speak like libyans

2. how was he able to persuade the attacker from attacking those christians knowing fully well that they actually came to that particular village to kill those he was harbouring.

3. was any ransome paid to save them

4. can two or more of those christians rescued come forward and testify about his good deed .
5.for how long has he been living in the community and how has been their relationship with the host community before the attack.

Giving the Imam a handshake for the heroic feat he did is utter nansense! He deserves far much more! Saving 300 people in one day from being killed, na beans? And he also had the courage to look the marauders in the eye, and refuse to release them. It takes sheer courage to do that. Yet he did this, at the risk to his own life. How many people would do the same thing today for a neighbour, talk less of strangers they hardly know?

Abeg, PMB and the state governor should dash the man the following items, for a start:

1). A 5-bedroom detached duplex on an acre of land in any choice location, within the state;

2). A pension for life, that runs into hundreds of thousands, per annum

3). Free life insurance and scholarships for all his children.

If PMB does this, it would send a clear signal to many, that he places a premium on human lives.

It is a pity that the man is not a footballer or a member of the super eagles squad. At least, he would have collected match bonus in US dollars, for stepping on the field.
